Made it through week one

Recommended Posts

I have now made it through week one. Although it hasn't been fun, it's been textbook. First few days, the gas pain was killer. I walked and I walked and then I finally passed gas and the world was a better place (at least my world). I now can take a semi-normal sip of Water and I'm able to get in my 60-80 grams of Protein. I've been walking two miles a day and then collapsing on the sofa. I've never seen so much TV. I am very fatigued. My goal is to get in a few more grams of protein and calories so that I can lose the exhausted feeling. The pain has been mostly ok except that I sometimes get a searing pain on the left side which will go away if I lie down. Happily I have been losing about a pound a day and I am getting very close to onderland. I just keep chanting, "Don't stall until I get to onderland."

How are the rest of the Feb 9thers doing?

It'll keep getting easier week by week. Hang in there! I didn't really fully get over the fatigue until after I was back on solids, about a month and a half post-op. But it does get better!

I'm a 9ther as well -- I'm doing pretty good, back at work today. I've had the hicups a few times & those hurt pretty bad -- but other than that, things are going good for me too!!! You're doing awesome, keep up the great work!! :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
