Question about first few weeks weight loss

Recommended Posts

Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong:(

During my week long pre op I lost 5 pounds and then from my surgery date of 1/29 to my first post op 1 week I had lost 11 pounds. Now this Thurs will be 2 weeks from my 1 week post op appt and I am exactly the same weight as I was at that appt!!??

I'm on purée diet, I drink one 30gram Protein Shake a day and I have no problem drinking liquids. I eat eggs, cottage cheese, Soups, some meat puréed but it's hard, and refried Beans. I know I'm less than 500 calories a day, not sure how I'm messing up. All I know is this beginning stage is pure hell and to keep watching the scale not move is torture. Any advice??

Try to relax. We've almost all been through this. Do a search on this site for "3 week stall". You will see about a billion answers.

My biggest suggestion to you would be to put your scale away and don't weigh yourself until you go back for your next doctor visit.

For a lot of people, the scale can be the devil in disguise. Your body has just been through a very tramatic procedure, and its trying to figure out what the hell happened. Stop putting yourself through the torture of living by what you see on the scale. You will certainly make yourself CRAZY!

Most importantly is try your best to get in as much Protein per day as you possibly can, and be sure to sip, sip, sip all day so you can make sure you stay hydrated. You definitely don't want to get dehydrated and wind up back in the hospital.

Worry not my dear, your body will figure everything out very quickly, and you'll begin to see hugh changes in your weight. Trust me, all of us have been down this road. It definitely gets better!

I just got out of the dreaded 3 week stall and it was brutal. I was almost at tears most of the time and it took its toll on me but when I broke it I realized that I was being pretty silly about the whole thing. I would of never lost even close to this much weight without the surgery so I was worried about losing what? ....Three maybe four pounds? If you are truly concerned about it though. Which I was I went back to basics. I went back on the liquid diet. Made sure if anything I got in 50g of Protein and 90% of my Water. If you choose to eat the pureed stuff just watch for sodium in foods it can tend to hold the water and also vamp up your work out a lil. I broke my stall in about 2 days of doing this. Good luck and don't worry your body does need time for adjustments and you will start to lose again real soon. Good luck!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
