Advised not to lose any more weight?

Recommended Posts

I am 13 months post op gastric bypass. I am currently 142 lbs at 5'3". The doctor has advised me not to lose any more weight as it would put me at risk of being Vitamin deficient. I still have an amazing amount of fat for my size 6 body. I could honestly lose another 10-20 pounds of fat. I am still officially overweight by BMI standards. I'm offended and insulted. I do plan on losing at least the 2 more pounds that will put me into normal body weight, more would be great. I don't know how they expect people to stop losing weight when they still feel like they have more to lose. And no I'm not addicted to losing. I still have a lot of fat left. I do plan on having plastics but need to lose the rest first. My blood work shows my levels of everything are fine. But d and B12 are slightly low so they have added those to my daily supplements. Is anyone else in this same situation? Any advise?

Jacilleggs you have done great congrats, your concern has come up in my support groups by a few that's post opt and those who are preopt .have you set your goal or was it preset by your doctor.? Most doctors goals are different then our own personal goals, it was debated at group that each person knows what they want to loose as well as look like and as long as their taking the Vitamins eating healthy and test are coming back its ok. Honestly speaking it was also shared that most people would have love to be in this predictiment . Their problem is loosing weight ., and constant stalls. My problem are stalls but I know they are normal , but I am determined like yourself and I know I will reach my own personal goal by staying focus. Good luck and keep us informed of your progress.

They wanted me to set my own goal and I let them know early on it was 140. They didn't discourage me then from reaching that. It's only now that they say it's too low. The ideal weight for someone who is 5'3" is 125. So I have some wiggle room. I don't want to be super thin. I want to be healthy looking. Thanks for your input.

I think your doc is wrong. I am 5'2" and currently weight 121 pounds. I began my journey at 331. My BMI is in the normal range and I am working hard to keep it there. I am 20 months post RNY. My doc thinks I am just fine. I do have some zinc and B1 deficiency, and have added them to my Vitamin routine. Originally, I was told I would bottom out at 180 pounds. I love where I am at and am determined to stay here. I feel terrific! Keep going until you reach your goal. Just my opinion, but it worked for me!

Thanks baconville I'm glad to hear your results. I do plan on continuing losing as much as possible. Within reason of course. I would love to hit 125! I'm happy where I am if I don't lose any or much more. But I'd be thrilled to lose more.

I'm 5'6 and i got down to 138. My doctor was fine with it. Kept it off for 3 years and this last year I've gained 26 pounds. I'm disgusted with myself! My sweet tooth came back with a vengeance and i don't feel any control over it. Some have told me that it goes hand in hand with menopause, which i have just entered. I'm trying to get focused again but it's not easy. I guess I'd say to you, do what makes you feel good. Go with your goal. Take the Vitamins you need and be happy :-)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
