Any Fluid Suggestions?

Recommended Posts

I'm finally over the panic of possible DVT (totally wasn't) enough to realize that I'm not getting near enough fluids in here on day 2 (or three, depending on whether Sx itself counts as day 1). I sip whenever I can, but as soon as I sip I hard mega-belching for 10-20 minutes. Seems they left more air in there than they thought it it's still seeping back into my digestive tract for expulsion. It makes it near impossible to drink though and is incredibly uncomfortable.

Anybody have any tips or tricks for dealing with this? I'm super thirsty, have a great fuzzy-naval Syntrax Protein I'm eager to sip on constantly, but so far every sip is near debilitating with all the gas. Or is this another "just wait it out" thing?

i'm only 4 days out myself, but i think you need to keep moving to get that gas out and keep sipping...slow slow slow...but keep at it

hope you feel better soon!

Walk walk walk. That will help get that air out. I am 3 days post-op and walking has really helped with the painful pressure I was feeling.

I agree with the walking...I'm 2 days post op. But the more walking you do the better. For me the hardest part is getting up and down off the couch. But once I'm up I try to walk around as much as I can. Good luck!

Day of surgery is not counted, so it sounds like you are 2 days post-op. Not only walk, but walk frequently. In the hospital I was the last case and did not get to my room until around 6 pm. I walked at 10p, 2a, and 6a. Then I walked every hour starting at 8am until discharge. I think it is one of the reasons my recovery has been uneventful. In the recovery room, the gas pain was so severe that I remember waking up crying out loud. So, keep walking! Glad you're on this side of surgery and good luck on your recovery.

Walking and Gas x strips helped me. Until I got it all out the same was happening to me. Sip and 10 minutes of burping. It does go away though.

Thank you all so much. I have ready responses to others' dilemmas matching mine, so I felt silly posting this myself. But your responses and caring support is invaluable. Today I'm doing FAR better.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
