Trader Joe's shopping list?

Recommended Posts

I'm making a rare trip to the "big city" and would love to get suggestions on what you buy at Trader Joes.

My surgery is Monday (2/16/15) and I'm set for my liquid phases (pre and post op) but am interested in their full liquid and pureed suggestions. Also any soft foods for post-purée stage.

What do you use from Trader Joes?

They have good hummus and ricotta cheese. They have plain kefir that you could miss with sugar free Syrup. I love traders but I found the regular stores more helpful with these phases. I would grab some almond meal and Google a recipe for cauliflower almond meal Pizza Crust for later.....

They also have an amazing taco seasoning packet. I mixed it in with my refried Beans and topped it with cheddar cheese and unflavored Greek yogurt. I buy their taco seasoning by the box. It stores well and one packet easily seasons 8 #s of meat.

Honestly there is so much great stuff there, it is hard to make a list. My suggestion is to leave yourself plenty of time to look around and read labels. You never know what may inspire you.

My closest Trader Joes is 3 hours away. I also stock up when I am there.

Have fun!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
