I don't enjoy food anymore.

Recommended Posts

I'm 7 weeks post op and every time I eat my stomach hurts. The food I prepare tastes great (following all Dr.s guidelines on what and how much to eat) its just a few minutes after the food reaches my stomach i experience pain. At this point I just avoid food as much as I can. I'm probably not getting enough Protein but I just can't do it anymore. I don't enjoy any of the foods I used to love (the healthy ones). Has anyone experienced this and will it last forever?

Ladies...it will get better I promise! You just have to give it time...be patient with your new tummy.. I had my gall bladder and the sleeve done at the same time on 12/17/14..I had atleast 4 breakdowns...thought it was the worst decision of my life...I am still struggling with the Protein and liquids but I am determined to get it right...b12 for energy it has helped me tremendously. ..make sure you are chewing chewing chewing...I still can't enjoy lots of foods but the ones I can I eat the heck out of them...lol...as soon as you feel full stop eating even if it is not the amount intended...let your tummy be your guide...I just ordered GENEPRO on Amazon going to try that... I am taking this (pic below) to help with Hair loss until I can get my Proteins right...can't tolerate shakes...I just woke up one day and things were better... I hope you both feel better soon!!!

It's really hard at first, and it gets so much better. View food as necessary for health like your meds. Over time, you will feel so much more normal with food, enjoying it again so take advantage of this time to change your relationship with food.

It will get better. What types of things are you trying to eat right now? At 7 weeks I was just starting back on solid foods. It could be that the things you are trying to eat are still just too much for your sleeve.

In all honesty, I am five months post-op now and I still don't enjoy food the way I used to, which is a GOOD thing. Because "enjoying" food for me used to mean eating portions that were a good 4-5 times as big as they should have been. I do, however, enjoy the taste of many foods and even the experience of eating them. I savor them in my mouth for much longer, chewing them very finely. It get's frustrating sometimes that I can only eat a few bites, when something is really good, and I wish I could eat more. But the few times I do eat more than I should, I regret it pretty quickly. So eating can be very un-fun for me still. But I am able to enjoy it much of the time.

I was pretty miserable at first, but I can assure you that it does get better! I gave myself 6 months to just keep putting one foot in front of the other, and do the best I can to follow the rules. I don't know how or why, but at 6 months I turned a corner. I don't know if I detoxed enough and got used to this new way of eating, or if I lost enough weight for it to really make a difference in the way I felt…please just stick it out, and things will improve!

I hated food at first! Ivs 2.5 yrs out and food doesn't hold the joy it use to! ( just went to a 5 star all inclusive and was sad i couldn't indulge in the food!) but the bites I had were amazing so it comes back

Today was a really tough day and I turned to food (and a watered down glass of wine). The interesting part was that I felt REALLY full after eating half my go to cheat snack, tortilla chips with cheese. So the GBP is doing its job!

The only way I can tell that I'm losing weight is from the scale and my clothes "getting bigger".

I can now buy clothes in normal stores again. Admittedly the first time when I started trying on clothes, I really had to keep myself calm. Normally trying on clothes causes me to become SOOO depressed that it take weeks just to get over it. Now, I have to keep myself from not wanting to buy everything!
