Its hard at the beginning. Need to just try a lot of different Protein powders until you can find something that you can tolerate. Are you able to drink milk?

If you are not able to tolerate milk and milk based Protein shakes, nectar makes a great line of Protein powders that make a "juice".

Post surgery i couldn't stand any of the Protein Shakes i was okay with pre-op. I ended up ordering the Unjury chocolate Splendor Protein powders and had alot better luck with those. Best of luck.

@@Browneyedgirl818 - My Twin! Where have you been! lol

I am at 3 weeks post op and I know exactly how you feel. I can't take another Protein shake and chicken broth for the life of me. I am on the pureed stage which means NOTHING, because everything in a blender grosses me out apparently.

I have my first follow up with my surgeon tomorrow. I am going to ask him what's up with all this nonsense of mine? Plus I can barely make it to 400 calories a day. Nevermind the 64oz of Water.

So far, this is what I have discovered:

  • cheese on eggs gross me out (for now)
  • My new tummy doesn't care for ham
  • Cottage cheese is okay, if I put honey on it. Still I can only eat about 1 tablespoon of it.
  • Desperate attempt to blenderize mac and cheese and that was a HUGE mistake. lol
  • Swallowed one crouton thinking, no harm- no foul, HAHAHA, yeah right. Crouton was stuck for a long while.
  • Shrimp taste funny to me. (I hope that changes)
  • Home made mash potatoes (i made for dinner for my loved one and I tasted a pinch of it) tastes nasty to me.
  • I baked cupcakes for my BF job and I don't care for the smell of batter and icing is nasty
  • Deviled Ham is cat food
  • Shredded buffalo chicken (deli meat) gives me heartburn
  • Quest Bar- Apple pie is awesome (having for dinner right now)
  • I was only able to eat 1 oz of baked tilapia before it got stuck going down.
  • Decaf coffee is okay
  • Premier Protein chocolate shake is nasty to me because of the thickness.
  • I discovered I prefer 1 % milk over 2% milk
  • Lipton Black Iced tea sugar free has been my savior
  • Lifesavers has also saved me a few time from low sugar
  • Greek yogurt is NOT my thing. ugh.
  • Diabetic Dannon light yogurt is okay
  • Refried Beans is not my thing
  • Popsicles- cherry only

I can go on, but can you tell my desperate attempts in the kitchen? I know when I am able to eat solids, it will be much better. But for right now, dog biscuits look tempting. lol

So I understand you completely.

I find adding a nonfat Greek yogurt to the unjury and unsweetened cocoa powder..adds a nice bitterness so they are not too sweet..add a touch of sugar free Syrup for smoothies....delicious!

I'm feeling very lucky because nothing has turned my stomach yet, but, I'm chewing everything to a swishing, watery pulp. I chew everything including yogurt, pudding and liquids. With the bypass we are lucky that we still have the residual stomach that secrets digestive enzymes which are activated in large part by the mechanics of chewing. And the saliva from the mouth....That helps the food get down and stay down as far as I'm concerned...chew, chew and chew some more. :-)

So im 7 weeks out and I'm supposed to be transitioning into the "regular food" stage. When i started the soft food stage at week 4 things were good i could eat about a cup of almost everything even minced chicken. But now for the last 2 weeks nothing goes down well everything makes me nauseous I've thrown up every other day. And can't have more than 1/4 cup of anything except yogurt. So lets say I'm not getting all my Protein. Besides i have no appetite or desire to eat. Feeling really down about this cause i really want to get in enough because I don't want to slow down my weight loss. Ughhh so frustrating

After surgery the most important drivers are Protein, liquid and Vitamin requirements. Foods are not a driver. Your body is working on the energy stored in your fat. That is why there is a rapid weight loss in the beginning. So in the beginning focus on getting in the protein, generally this is by using Protein Shakes. As time goes on you will transition to Protein Bars as a supplement and getting more and more of your protein from meals. Protein shakes for me taste terrible. Everyone's taste is different, but an individual should try and find one they can tolerate. Some protein shakes come in powder form and some are premixed. I used a powder form (Muscle Milk Light) and quickly discovered I needed an electric blender (Ninja single serve) because when I tried to mix them by hand, they would not mix completely. I also found that blending allowed me to mix in some fruits (bananas) which made them go down easier. I went from three protein shakes a day down to two down to one as my protein requirements were derived more from the protein in the meals. Eventually I went completely off the protein shakes. I found that I could tolerate meals that were mixtures with a liquid element better than solids. So therefore I concentrated on homemade high protein Soups and chili. These worked very well for me.

Yes i know but my bariatric team wants me off shakes. I have Protein bars but don't wabt to just eat that. Plus now even those make me nauseous. I guess I'll to go back to shakes or figure something out for the nausea.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
