So this may be a stupid question but I guess I was under the impression that with the Sleeve and with the grelin gone, my appetite would at least be lessened. I have to tell you that whatever it is that is left of my stomach is constantly growling no matter how much Water and Jello I stick into it. I am just under a week post op. Is this my own hang up that when I smell or see food it is triggering my brain as opposed to my stomach or am I really that hungry? Anyone else?

I also feel hunger. Mine is NOT "head" hunger. It is physical hunger pain. I am 1 month post op. If my stomach is empty, I have hunger pains. During the first 2 weeks, my stomach would hurt when I went to bed enough that it was hard to go to sleep. That subsided once I got past the liquid stage, but I do still experience hunger pains when empty.

I am 13-14 days post op? I don't have hunger, but I do eat with my eyes. When I go to the grocery store, you see me looking at everything as if I was a homeless person who has not eaten for years. Sadly, can't have it and the damn thing won't fit anyway. I am going through a rough stage that is pureed. Frankly, everything pureed looks like vomit to me. So I am sticking to the shakes which i am SO TIRED of and chicken Soup. I am going to come out clucking soon. I want to eat solid things, but when I try, feels like it gets stuck and I chuck it up. Wed is my follow up, I am going to ask about opening up the stricture a little? If possible. Feeling dizzy and weak and I am not getting in what I should. :(

OMG -that's hysterical.

Have you tried a soft scrambled egg? Scrambled egg with cheese was a life savor for me. Mind you it took nearly a hour to eat one egg, but OMG! food.

@@lucy0911 - that could be acid. Are you on any antacids? Initially it's hard to tell the difference.

Yeah, I have tried scrambled egg (notice it is not a plural, lol). I tried with cheese and my stomach was not having it. Tried with ham, nope...not doing it. I did a plain old egg, and it went down after years passed by. (wink).

They key for me was making the egg super soft almost custard like. Have you tried adding a bit of milk? I add a tiny bit of yogurt to mine, but then again yogurt is one of my go to foods.

I did add milk. My stomach is just not cooperating. I guess I am two extremes. Either I eat too much and got me to where I am today, or I go on jaw lock down. I see my surgeon on Wed. I am going to ask if there is anyway to open the stricture. I never heard of that but my boss suggested it. Either that, or it means I am still swollen inside. My Soup has shredded chicken in it and after two spoons I have to stop because it seems that it is not going down as it should.

This will be your 2 week check up? Maybe you're still swollen and just need to be on liquids a little longer. Hopefully the doctor can work something out for you.

I still feel like it's swollen inside too! Am on puréed now and can't stand anything sweet, so not getting enough Protein in! Enjoying puréed carrots and Humus now, mix veg purée with cream cheese and puréed tuna with soft cheese

@BLERDgirl. I do have omeprazole but I haven't taken it. I will try that. Just a quick question for you. Given the diet restrictions that we need to follow, how do you get your Protein as a vegetarian? I will have a giant garden this spring/summer and I am interested in finding out how you are doing this. I know I can add veggies to everything which is great, but just curious

@@lucy0911 - People are usually surprised to find that Protein is in most things, particularly dark, green leafy veg and whole grains. I was already keeping a food journal prior to WLS. I averaged about 50 gms of Protein a day. When I met with the nutritionist we discussed how to increase that to 60+gms a day. The key for me was finding a Protein powder I could live with. I've finally found that I prefer Isopure unflavored. I just add it to my morning Breakfast smoothie. I use a lot of FAGE 0% greek yogurt. I also eat a lot of bean, grains like farro & quinoa, cheese and the occasional egg. Occasionally I use meat substitutes like Beyond meat, Gardein, tofu, tempeh and seitain. My protein average for the past week is 72gm.

Here's a helpful chart on protein sources.

I go for my first follow up Wednesday and I am hoping to get the ok for yogurt and Protein drinks. I can't really stand the Jello now so i am strictly Water at this point.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
