Feb 9 is the day

Hi all

So here we go

About to start my 2 week Optifast diet (I think is a bit silly as it's quite high in carbs) my Nut are all about the money and the up sell....but I think the 'detox' from carbs and eating bit meals will be helpful post op. Plus stopping drinking!

I am actually looking forward to the 'detox' I have one night in the middle which is a good friends 40th...I do plan on eating dinner that day (not just shakes) but I am going to eat low carb and minimise alcohol...then back on the shakes for the week before surgery....I am worried it will be hard but am trying to convince myself it may be the last 'diet' I have to go on and focus on good food choices post op

My BMI is 32 but I have prediebetes

As most people are fairly judgmental at my lower BMI

I have told everyone I am having my hiatus hernia repaired...a half truth that also explains the pre and post op diets

I can not WAIT to loose some weight and am actually looking forward to 2 nights in hospital without the kids in my bed!

Would love to hear from some recently sleeves people about recovery? As I am pretty nervous about that!

Hi Sarah

Thanks for the reply

Have you started your diet?

I am having a pretty blue day

Not sure if it's just the carb wothdrawl but I'm having a lot of second thoughts about the surgery

I just don't want to get it done! I don't want to be on this diet and I am scared I will never enjoy eating....or get off this dieting rebound about

Most of all I just don't want to fail

Hope your day 2 is going a little better than mine

P

Sorry, I just noticed this -- YES! Started it on Monday.. isn't as bad as I thought it would be! Sorry you're having second thoughts. Just think of all the positives that are going to come from this procedure!! Failure is my biggest fear, but you just have to follow the rules! :) We can do this, together!!!!

I had mine on Feb 9th!

Hi all. I had my sleeve on the 23rd as well. I was a lower BMI as well at 36 but had had a band for 5 years with varying success and then failure with the band becoming so inflamed that I had zero Fluid in it and I still had trouble keeping any food/liquids down.

I can honestly say it's been the most painful surgery I have ever had with 3 separate occasions of suture/staple tears causing horrendous pain for up to 9 days. This has since gone & I'm great now!

On the positive side, I'm feeling terrific ! I would recommend this surgery to anyone wishing to change their life. I've lost 25 kg and am finally recognising the woman in the shop window when I walk past.

I would love to hear from anyone as it can be a lonely journey when you're the only one in your family who actually has to deal with the daily struggles of food and socializing.

Beryl from Perth Australia.

@@bear2506 That's great you are doing better. I didn't have very much pain from mine but I think it depends on the person. The lady who had it the same day was screaming from the pain. Guess I got lucky.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
