Will I Ever be able to drink wine again?

Recommended Posts

Yes, I have had wine since month 4. Red wine. One glass every now and then. I was and still am not much of a drinker. It gives me no problem.

My NUT told me to wait at least 6 months, and then limit to red wine and it can slow down weight loss.

Nut= Nutritionist

I have had wine and Vodka, wine has a lot more calories. I opt for Vodka & Water with lime, no issues

I absolutely enjoy a good glass of wine every now and then. I would say my first drink was probably 4 months post op. A lot of surgeons will tell you wait a full year. You will hear a lot of different responses, similar to the coffee question. There's not really a definitely right or wrong. The key - like everything once you get a year+ out is moderation. If I have 1 glass every now and then there is no difference in my weight. Now if I were to drink 3 or 4 glasses on a regular basis, that is a lot of calories and like any other caloric intake, will add up. The other issue is that sometimes WLS patients develop crossover addictions. Since it's not feasible to be a food addict, people sometimes become addicted to other things. So just be mindful of that. All that being said, there is no difference really for me. I was a light, social drinker before, and I am now. The only change is that I get feeling tipsy a lot more quickly than before and I usually try to opt for the "skinny" drink choices whenever possible.

I tolerate up to 2 drinks in a social setting, but I don't drink on a regular basis. Due to the empty calories, I have alcohol only on special occasions, like the company holiday party. It's nice once in awhile as a treat, but I don't want alcohol to become a crutch for me.

I'm drinking a glass of wine right now.

But, seriously, there are better wines out there to drink than merlot.

Well guys and gals I tested the waters last night, 4 weeks post op.

My drink was vodka and cranberry. I poured half a shot, lots of ice, and cranberry. It took me an hour to drink it and it got me nice and mellow. I was a little scared to try it but curiosity was killing me. I wasn't insanely drunk, just a nice little buzz.

I might try it again if I'm at a special occasion. However, I didn't find the drink as exciting as I used to. It was okay, nothing to brag about.

I'm actually more of a Jameson and ginger beer kind of gal. But I'm staying away from the fizzy stuff.

I'll give ya an update when I try some tasty wine (if I still find it tasty)

What kind of wine do you find goes down easy?

8 months out. I like to order a drink when I go out, but I can only handle several sips.

I wasn't a big drinker pre-surgery, but my alcohol tolerance has lessened post-surgery.

Wine palettes are particular the person.

I've been drinking good wines for over 40 years.

I like REDS:

Cabernet sauvignon

Pinot

Zinfandel

Syrah

I like WHITES:

Chardonnay

Sauvignon blanc

I like CHAMPAGNE

And I like DESSERT WINES:

Ports

Sauternes

fruit brandies

There's so much wine in the world to sample and explore. We don't have to drink it every night or every week or every month. But I would be sad if wine were forever off my menu.

I do! I waited probably 4 months before trying it. I favor dry reds and it took some time to tolerate them again. Dry whites went down better in the beginning. Just be careful with the extra calories and work it into your day as you would any "treat".

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
