Caffein free and craving orange juice

Recommended Posts

OJ doesn't have caffeine, so if you crave it, go for it. Just be cognizant of the amount of sugar in it and if it helps kick the craving, you can always Water it down with Water or if you want to be bad, use some sparkling water. It will be like a mimosa...sort of, haha.

But, in terms of caffeine withdrawal triggering a desire for OJ, I didn't have that issue, but others might have.

Drink the real thing. Just be cognizant of the calories. It's not like you can drink a ton of the stuff. If the citrus cause acid, try diluting it.

Orange juice isn't allowed on my 2-week pre-op diet so if you are on a specific pre-op diet you might want to double-check your instructions before having it.

I lived off of diluted orange juice. I started drinking it around month 3-4. It definitely helped me get my fluids in.

For awhile after surgery, apple juice was the only thing that would quench my thirst, but I had to stop drinking it because I didn't want those calories. I love orange juice and pineapple juice so lately I've been mixing the sugar-free Walmart Orange Sunrise drink with a little bit of pineapple juice. Yesterday I drank some OJ mixed in with the Orange Sunrise. It's not that we can't drink it ever again, it's just that OJ has a lot of acid in it and can mess with your stomach. Sometimes you just have to go with the real thing for a short time to quench that craving.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
