what if your band was removed several months ago? would...

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I've heard that you will lose slower once you convert to RNY from the band. Mine was removed several months ago and I really don't want to lose too fast b/c I only have around 50 lbs to lose. How was it for those of you that had RNY later in two steps or even in one step. Was the weight loss slower? Thanks~

I had my band removed and converted to bypass a little over 4 months ago in one procedure. I would say my loss has been slower than some, but I think it is more due to my age than anything. I am averaging around 2 lbs per week overall.

Notinks, I'm no spring chicken which is one reason why I don't care to lose too fast, I have enough hanging skin as it is LOL. I can handle an average lose of 2-4 lbs per week, but not 10-12 per week. Thanks, that was my reason for asking.

I had my band removed in April and got bypass Dec 15th. I have lost 21 pounds since then - 5 weeks. is slowing down know so I think it will be a pound or two a week for me - great progress in my book. Good Luck!!!

Hey! Nice to see ya on the boards. My weight loss was actually pretty fast. I lost 45lbs in about 2 months. I'm about a week from being 6 months out and I've lost a total of 67lbs. I haven't lost any weight in about a month now so I think my body has finally hit its "sweet spot". When do you see your surgeon again next? I see mine next week to discuss what happens now and other things on my to do list :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
