ANYONE NERVES ABOUT SLEEVE?

Recommended Posts

Pray.. feel confident and embrace this new journey. It will be one of the best decisions you ever made. Remember it's a tool and follow the doctors and nut directives. Also this journey is yours you own it. You can't focus on others and how they feel what they do or don't do. Good luck.

ANYONE NERVES ABOUT SLEEVE?

@@MOALAFAM11

i think the above question/statement should be rephrased.............

"Is there anyone who is NOT nervous about being sleeved"???

i was extremely nervous the month of upcoming surgery

all surgeries have their "possibilities" small chances there "MIGHT" be a complication/problem

i think the % of worry by people about to be sleeved is 98-100%

but the actual % of people with problems might be 1 - 2% ???

tips for when you are at home???

Party Hearty

then again..........

i always think/say that the Water issue is the most important

you CAN live without eating for a time period

but you NOT live without Water

YOU MUST DRINK - YOU MUST DRINK - YOU MUST DRINK - YOU MUST............

did i get my point across? ;)

it might be hard at first to drink water

try drinking liquids at normal/room temperature

chrystal light also is good

take small sips

maybe set a "reminder"/bell/timer every 5 minutes or so to drink/sip more water

stop drinking 1/2 hour before you eat

do not EVER drink while you are eating

do not drink for 45-60 minutes after you eat

drink at least 64 oz of water a day

not drinking enough water can/will make you dehydrated

you will then have to go to hospital and be rehydrated by IV's

do everything slowly

don't overdue

its time to take care of YOU

tell hubby or significant other or............ to fend for themselves

tell the kids to run (or crawl) around at the park for a few hours :D

then you can get your necessary rest

by the time they get home they will be tuckered out

easy to put to bed

surgery one from today

i'll "allow" you to be a little worried about surgery

but enough is enough ;)

put your excited cap on too

after all you are on the way to a healthier, happier, longer life

who deserves it more ;)

good luck

speedy recovery

My hospital gave me those little medicine cups to sip from like the kind on the tops of nyquil bottles. When I was discharged I asked for a few to take home. For the first week I sipped from them. It was a good reminder to sip and drink slow.

My advice is to relax. Deep breathing, meditations, anything you can think of to relax. If you pray, say a prayer. Then just let go.

Just relax. I was so nervous and almost chose not to do it on the day of my procedure. I'm really glad I did it. Had my procedure December 29. The best advice I can give is relax and think about all the positive changes coming you're way. The biggest thing for me was buying 5oz Dixie cups. That helped me so I didn't over drink in one sitting. Keep us posted on you're progress!!!!!!!!

Hi all, I am booked in for feb 19th

Conversation with my mum earlier tonight has really got me stressing.. The operation will cost me approx $16k and there is always the possibility of complications which means 1000s more in cost and hospital stay

I'm trying to be positive and look at the bigger picture but the stress of the above has really got me anxious.. Do I just cancel and go back to life as it is..? Or take the risk and what will be will be? Positive reinforcement is definitely needed here :( send help!

@@kelliep - Can you afford the out of pocket cost? Can you pay that in installments?

As for complications, please keep in mind there are many of us who had zero complications. I have had a relatively pain-free and uneventful surgical course. I couldn't be happier.

Hi guys, feeling a lot better today. I'm from Australia, not sure if this is american or international?

The 16k I can afford, & I'm just keeping positive in knowing I'm a young healthy girl so complications are quite rare. I know I'm in great hands with my Doctor. However any operation is scary :(

Where are you all from? Any words of advice or wisdom so I don't drive myself insane over the next month! Haha

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
