July 2007 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi to the July 07 bandsters! I hope I can tag along this journey with you all. I started researching in Jan of 07 and after all the waiting, I have a date of July 31st. I am so excited, to the point of wishing July was about over. This site has helped me alot already. Any other bandsters from Nebraska or other nearby states?:)

My name is Jessica, this is my first post, although I have been reading this website for a couple of months now. I will be banded Tuesday, July 10, 2007 in San Antonio, about 20 min. from my house. I have BCBS (I am a teacher in Texas) and I have to pay about $1900 which is 20%.

I was supposed to be on the Atkins diet for the past 2 weeks but I have not been very good on it. I have never been successful on Atkins because the only Protein I really like to eat is lean Protein (I don't care for red meat, pork, etc) and I just can't eat turkey and chicken all day every day so my options on Atkins are very limited. I hope I have lost at least a few pounds by Tuesday.

I am so excited to have this surgery, I have been overweight, going up and down for the past 9 years since I graduated high school. I am looking forward to going clothes shopping!

I have been researching WLS forever and the second I found out my insurance covered it, I made my appointment. It has been 8 months since my first appointment, I had to complete a 6 month Dr. supervised program for my insurance.

5 days and counting!!!

My screen name is particularly important to me and I'd like to share it with others.

A good friend of mine that had gastric bypass told me that you have about 18 months to figure out WHY you eat the way you do. After that, you may start to put the weight back on. So this is more a journey of self-discovery for me and if i can where a bikini next year, all the better!!! :clap2:

Best of luck and continued success to all.

One other think -- How do you get the ticker on? I've created it but I can't figure out how to add it.

thanks so much.

-18 months :)

As its approaching the last two weeks before surgery I'm wishing to be banded right now. Hope all the bandsters in July are doing well with their bandings. CLO -- Clear liquids only!!

I am excited, but I've definitely had a hard time staying on the liquid meals for the past few days. I didn't do horribly, but I may a slipped with a bite here or there, only steamed veggies and fruit, though.

The liquid diet was for 7 days and they said the first three would be hard, but I found the last three even harder. It's all in my head!!

I may just take a valium and sleep tomorrow away :notagree

It will be good. I'll let you all know when I come out the other side!!

My surgery's at 3:30 today. I feel fine, confident and at ease. I can't eat or drink anything all day, so I'll just keep myself busy!!

I really feel ready:clap2::P

Hey July bandsters!! Ready or not here I come....I go in on the 17th to be a "banded woman"...I am really nervous about the anesthesia(sp) only because I have never ever been in any kind of a surgery before that requires me not to be awake!! Any words about the whole being under and the feeling you get after you wake up???

I was just banded on Wednesday, 7-11. It's really fast and the anesthesiologist should come and talk to you about it before surgery. Since it's only about 45 minutes, it's not too bad. My suggestion is that if you don't need pain meds after, (demerol is what they gave me), don't take it. It just takes you longer to feel normal, besides, they give it to you in a shot form and IT HURTS!! My arm is still numb in that area. I slept on and off for two days before I felt like myself again. So, allow yourself to rest.

Best of luck. I'm feeling really good and this is my third day. I went food shopping, rested and then took my daughter to the park. I just take it easy because you're not eating much of anything and you can get weak pretty easily. Get the help where you can!!

Hello one and all, I was hoping to get banded in July. But all is lost for July. I have done all the tests needed and I an awaiting a surgery date. I now have been told since I have asthma and wheeze at night I need to have a sleep study and they are booked for several weeks. So the surgeon states that they are also now booking into Sept. Wow one foot forward and three steps back..... Sure can't wait for the surgery.....Thanks for listening to me vent......LOL,,,,,

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
