This made me sad

Recommended Posts

I came across this article today about the toll obesity can take on a family but it sure seemed to take a toll on this poor guy. And he had gastric bypass in 2000. This really is not a magic cure.

This is heartbreaking. food can be a drug, a very powerful one. I struggle with it everyday. So sad for this man and his family.

Thank you for sharing this. What truly resonated with me were his words: " gastric Bypass didn't teach me how to eat. You have to work." Rest in peace.

toll obesity can take on a family

@@*Lexie*

i'm just sitting here kindof staring out into space

this story is heartbreaking

such a sad story that might be happening more and more

i can't think of any right answer that will help the world with obesity

(just to mention getting rid of all fast institutions would be a good place to start)

of course that could never happen

Hector didn't want to live

i can only imagine how he must have felt

he was successful at times in losing weight

only to put it back on again

i'm afraid most of us know that feeling

he led such a sad life

obesity starting from childhood

bullying

continuing to gain weight as an adult

being stuck in a chair

feeling no reason to live

just ate and sat, watched tv

ate and sat, and ate and sat etc.............

if his story helps one obese person

to lose and maintain their weight

his death will not be in vain

wherever he is now

i hope he is in peace

no more suffering

Yes, this story is very sad.

However, I'm pretty sure his doctor and/or surgeon would of referred him to a nutritionist who would have explained "healthy" eating to him, but obviously he chose not to heed their advice.

We all know how addictive junk food can be and when faced with a bag of chicken McNuggets, it's just way too easy to eat them instead of preparing a healthy chicken salad.

I'm actually surprised that he was able to gain back so much weight after the bypass, as his stomach capacity would not have been large enough.

I wish everyone on here every success with their weight loss journey and I hope we can all learn to love our life and it to the fullest.

Cheers.

@@*Lexie* Amazing story. Things like this is a real eye opener. To think McDonalds will never admit that they are a big culprit. I know we have to have self control. But why feed and capitalize on poison?

i wrote the below paragraph now put in green earlier

needed to make a correction

therefore the repost

"i can't think of any right answer that will help the world with obesity

(just to mention getting rid of all fast institutions would be a good place to start)

of course that could never happen"

meant to have the word food there

we all know how mcdonalds, burger king et al are frequently "visited"

increasing now to LARGE sizes

why not

order large burger, large fries, large soda

eventually

LARGE COFFIN

Eye opening article! You know I believe many of us have that fear of gaining it back, and this article is that FEAR on a monumental level. I will not go to those fast food places, even as large as I am now, I won't go there. But a surgeon, psych, nutritionist and dietitian will be there for ME, so this does not happen to ME (today it's all about ME, by the way. HA!) I will be compliant, and thank GOD for a strong support group and community such as BP!

In the video he calls himself a cautionary tail. He also hoped to find some meaning in his life by telling his story and helping someone else. Mission accomplished. I will not forget this sweet man and I will remember him when I get discouraged. At 5 months post sleeve surgery, I find myself eating more and more. I absolutely know that I have the potential to fail. However, I absolutely know that I also have the potential to succeed long term.

Thank you Hector -- rest in peace.

Ellen

As its been said on this forum, the Gastric Sleeve is simply a tool to help you lose weight. You still have to watch what you eat and exercise.

This is a sad story but I hope it doesn't discourage anyone from getting gastric surgery of any sort. I hope more and more people continue to get it and hopefully we can get back on track and be as healthy a possible.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
