Lying here eight hours post surgery...

Recommended Posts

And all has gone very smoothly. The pain is not nearly as bad as I'd imagined. Lots of burping seems to be keeping the gas down so far, and After my scan in the morning I'll be ready to drink liquids. For now it's ice chips and lots of napping. I honestly can say my anxiety was far worse than the reality! Nursing has been great and responsive, and having my sweet husband here all day was wonderful.

I'm wondering when or if my hunger will return? Nothing so far!

Just got cleared to start liquids. Nothing yet, though, and my mouth is so dry. Just a little bit uncomfortable, no gas pain yet... Does that start after 24 hours? I've taken some morphine yesterday , but nothing this morning. So far, not nearly as bad as I anticipated.

Glad to hear you are doing so well. For me the terrible gas pain was the only real pain I had and it started right away.maybe you won't have that problem!

Keep us posted on your progress and good luck!

For me walking helped reduced my gas pain. It might not be a problem for you as my pain started immediately!

My major gas pain (the kind in my guts, not the "blow me up for surgery" muscle pain) started in earnest on Day 3.

Congrats for making it through smoothly! I don't remember any gas pain but I may just not remember! lol It sounds like you will do just fine throughout the process!

I eventually did start to feel hunger when I was several months out but it only takes a bit of something to satisfy it. Certainly not like the hunger I used to have!! And the headaches that came with it in the past no longer happen.

On to the next phase! You are doing awesome.

I'm 23 months post RNY. I do get hungry sometimes, but I am able to deal with it by good eating choices. I can eat a lot of salad-- maybe 2 cups with some Protein if that is my meal. I chew it to nothing and it is one of my favorites. I can eat 4 ounces of meat in a meal, a few bites of a sweet potato or baked potato, maybe a few bites of veggies. I do eat three meals and two Snacks (hummus and carrots or cheese and apple or ww bread with peanut butter) to keep my blood sugar in check. I feel like a normal person!

That sounds great! I'm already starting to have "mouth hunger". I'm craving more substantial food than liquids. I can't wait for purées!

@@adrianna33, this was exactly how it was for me. I did not feel hungry at all until about 10 weeks post op. I had to force myself to eat and sometimes set an alarm to ensure I was able to get everything in. It changed for me after I started working out. I then noticed actual hunger coming back. The good news is, I just eat a small amount of food and I am full again.

Good luck to you and enjoy the honeymoon period!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
