I have a hiatal hernia and it was not repaired during surgery.

I did not take meds prior to surgery - however now I take zantac once daily and drink carafate 4x's daily...... most days it feels like this isn't enough either.

My chronic asthma was finally correctly diagnosed and treated as a result of my pre-op EGD. They put me on Omeprazole immediately which helped. They fixed the hernia during my sleeve. Post op, I had to up my dose to twice per day. Things were much worse the first month post op but then rapidly improved with healing and weight loss. Still take it 2x per day but thinking I should maybe cut back the morning dose. Last time I tried that I didn't have symptoms but felt extra hungry so I went back on.

My hiatal hernia was repaired during surgery. I had horrible GERD after surgery (4 weeks ago-sleeve), but the dr. said that as I heal, it will improve to the point of not needing meds at all (on omneprozole now). He said it should take about 3 months.

I had hiatal hernia repair during vsg and haven't had any issues since surgery. I am 2 months post-op.

I am 10 weeks out-before my surgery I asked the Dr if I should have the RNY instead of the sleeve as I had been dealing with GERD for a long time and did not want it to get any worse. He assured me it should get better when the hiatal hernia was fixed and as I lost weight and that he thought I should have the sleeve. So, I did. Well, when I went for my 1 month post op visit he told me to stop taking my Nexium and just use Tums or Rolaids if I needed something. Can't do it. Even with still taking my Nexium I sometimes have reflux that wakes me up in the middle of the night, sometimes have the acid in the back of my throat. NASTY. So, for me, it has NOT gotten better. Maybe worse. Going to ask my family Dr about maybe going to twice a day dosing. I'm still hoping it will get better. But, acid reflux CAN be treated so don't let the worry about that keep you from getting the sleeve!

I too had hernia repair, sleeved on Dec 17th. I have had horrible gerd and doctor is telling me I have to ride it out that it gets better with weight loss. I hope this is true . Its not better yet, taking 40 mg Nexium twice daily and it doesn't help. Everyone is different . I hope you don't suffer with it afterward.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
