I got my approval today (finally!) for band removal/RNY. I'm excited, relieved, happy, and I know as it gets closer, I'll be scared. (June 18th, the day after my birthday!) Too bad I'll be on liquids that day--oh well--small price to pay.

I never, ever thought I'd be having RNY, now I'm so excited. I guess it's the old glass house saying; or is it walking in anothers' shoes? You get the point. Yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:clap2::clap2:

The journey begins again...

Karen

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! Incidentally, I saw Dr. Ortiz did you band. He's doing my hubby's band July 18th...I myself do not have a lap-band. I had RNY gastric bypass in April 2006. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me! Again...congrats on your approval.

Thanks Betty! Wow, we were losing in tandem, and now LOOK AT YOU GIRL! I'm so happy for you. I'm so proud of my buddy.

I'll keep you all posted as long as I don't get any flack about my decision. (I don't mean from you--I've just seen so much RNY & other surgery bashing on this site!)

hugs,

Karen

That's the problem with RNY bashers, I just don't think they get understand, here's my theory: Just because RNY isn't right for me at this time, doesn't mean it isn't right for someone else. I am certain that you are the type of person who has done her research and is very comfortable with her decision. That is the key.

I do wish you all the luck in the world, I am very interested to hear how it all goes and how you do down the road, I'm sure you will do GREAT!

Good luck!!

I considered RNY, and still would if the band doesn't work for me. I'm all for it! Congrats on your upcoming surgery!

Karen - I know how hard you tried and how much you wanted the band to work for you. I also know how many problems it caused you. I am just happy to see you have a second option to help you. I am happy for you my friend, and I don't think anyone on this board that knows what you have been though the last year would put you down for anything. My heart goes out to you for just having the problems of your DH to deal with, I know that has been really hard. I'm glad to hear you DD is doing fine with the band! You are a sweetie girl, and you'll always be welcome as far as I am concerned! Hugs!

Karen, best of luck with everything. Honestly, if for someone reason my band were not doing what I need it to do, or it had to come out, I believe I would go for the RNY too. Please keep us posted on your experience with it. I hope all goes well for you! In the end, we are all after the same goal, to live healthier, longer lives!

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
