I Want Soda ... BAD

Recommended Posts

I've been soda-free for over 10 months now and although sometimes I crave it, I am so much better off without it! I was a soda addict pre-op and not only is it just empty calories, it ruined my teeth. Now I'm paying the price. I was curious and took a sip of my daughters sprite one day and it wasn't even worth it.. Made my tummy rumbly too. It's like, what's the point? Soda is so bad for you anyway.

Like you, I really really wanted soda.I was really missing it. I had a small amount about 4 months post sleeve. I had no horrible side effects after but never had it again. Guess I needed a taste to find out that I really didnt miss it at all. Good luck!

Can you venture out into some new drinks? Maybe you are getting bored with your liquids? I'm going on 4 months post op... too scared to even drink anything bubbly.

I quit drinking sodas before being sleeved, but in our nutrition classes they gave us an interesting picture when we asked why we couldn't drink carbonated beverages. They said to imagine what happens when you take a small baloon, put it on an open soda bottle and shake it up. The thought of what stomach I have left blowing up was not appealing to me, so I haven't tried it since. I figure my Diet Pepsi didn't taste that good when I had it last anyway, and no Coke Zero was worth taking a chance like that. I have enough other stuff to deal with.

Try to get hooked on sugar free sobes or low calorie Gatorade. I'm still soda free, though I do have sweet tea often.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
