it is normal to gain a little after surgery. the fill will diminish your appetite and if you follow your Dr and nutritional advice you will start losing again. it is not a speedy way to lose but I think I am healthier losing slowly. my skin looks good, have had no hair loss and no longer have diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol. It will be worth it. Stay focused on your goal.

Go get a fill. Most people get their first fill at six weeks or sooner. I was six weeks. It is the whole reason we got the adjustable tool. Once you start with fills you will begin to figure out how much restriction works for you. Call the doc and set it up. Good luck.

A fill may or may not work. Do as your surgeon and coordinator instructs and follow the rules: Protein first, anything else second, no fluids 1 HR before or after meal, 64+ ounces of Water per day. 15 - 20 minutes to eat meal. When you feel done you are done! Not another bite.

I was wondering the same thing. I was banded under two wks ago on a Wednesday. By that Saturday, I was already "hungry". I haven't over done it, following Drs orders. But I was wondering if my first fill will curtail my hunger pings. First fill is about two wks away.

The first fill should be done on empty stomach ie no food for however long per your surgeon instructions. Mine says 4 hours no food before fill then liguids for 24 hours.

I began to get hungry a couple weeks after my surgery (11/12/2014) so I thought I needed a fill, but I wasn't scheduled for my first fill until January 6. I am now staying full longer, BUT, the one thing that I still do is drink a large glass or 20 oz. bottle of Water when my tummy starts growling. If I can drink that entire amount and still be hungry, then I really do need to eat. Sometimes, my body just needs Water, and thinks it needs food. This is also what I try to do when its late at night and I want to eat something, I drink water (flavored) and then run to bed!

The other thing that fills me up for some reason is hot liquids, hot tea, or Soups for instance.

Best of luck to you :)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
