Hi all! Have just found this site and I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you. I'm asking for a bit of encouragement. I'm 10 days post op from my gastric sleeve surgery. Doing well at getting in my Protein and my fluids but I am so craving something to eat!!! I am not craving a burger or pizza - just something with a little substance. I am scheduled to go back for my first post-op appt with the nurse practitioner on 1/6 but unless they change their usual post-op plan, I will still have another 2 weeks after that of just liquids before moving to "mushy" foods. I know I can do this but it's a challenge for sure! Any suggestions are welcome. I'm still using the Protein supplements that I got from the doctor presurgery and do best with the Soups. I bought some whey powder from Walmart but really don't care for the taste of it. I'm thinking I'm going to try the premade shakes and see if I like them better. I have tried the Atkins shakes in the past and liked them ok but they are more expensive. But it will be worth it if it helps me stick to the liquid phase right?

Try the Premier Protein they are my favorite! Also Swanson makes some really good broths out side the normal beef and chicken.< /p>

I agree with Elode. I would gag and have to force down just about any type of powdered Protein. I started buying the premier ready made shakes and haven't had any problems. Each shake is 11oz and has 30g of Protein so I only have to drink 2 a day. They can be a little pricey though. I started buying the 12pks from Sam's Club and they're a little cheaper. I'm 14 days post-op and like you, struggled with wanting to eat something. My surgeon said I could eat the green heart label creamed Soups so I've been doing Tomato Soup and that seems to help my cravings some. I still have 1 more week before I can start pureed foods and have been counting down the days. You can do it!!!!!

thanks for the suggestions! I work at a dialysis clinic and one issue we constantly deal with our patients about is getting enough Protein in their diets. We have a product called Liquicel that is kind of a syrupy liquid and you get 16 grams of Protein in 1 oz. The dietitian gave me some samples of that to mix w/ juice and see if I could get it down better. It's not something that I would recommend long term but if it gets me through this phase 1 until I can start adding in some eggs I will take it!

I'm 11 days out and I tried some cottage cheese today and it went down great. My Tomato Soup and Greek yogurt have been getting me through, but I too cannot wait to start eating "real food". I need to get back on my shakes, but drinking them now makes me wanna hurl. They are too sweet to me. I want to pick up some Premier Protein shakes and try those, as I have no urge to make my own from this giant jug of powder I bought pre-op. I cannot wait for pursed!

I haven't had my sleeve done yet, but, a close friend of mine is 1.5 years out from hers. She said to curb her cravings to chew, she made a pitcher of crystal light, poured in in ice cube trays, then smashed it in little pieces in a ziplock bag when frozen. She would take a little bowl, and chew the ice until it was melted. She got her waterin, and chew cravings solved.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
