I was banded on April 23rd, I lost 14lbs before the surgery and since have lost 14lbs. I've had 2 fills, my first fill I had gained 1lb. my second fill I remained the same. I have alot of weight to loose, I began at 341 and now I'm 313 and not real happy with my self. At first I felt no restriction with the 1st adjustment, the 2nd I did fill somewhat of an adjustment, I return on 7/18 (I'm hoping for a loss) somedays I feel like I've lost and other days I feel the same, I have yet to feel like I'm gaining, which is a good thing for me. The doctor told me that the 3rd adjustment I will feel alot of difference. He adjusted the 1st time after only 5 wks. then 4 wks later the second time. I guess it all depends on your doctor. My doctor is Dr. Coirin from Modesto, California. He was a little upset with me on the eating part after the surgery, I was really bored with the soft, puree, liquid stuff-I wanted to eat and slowly I just kept trying things. bread, Pasta, Rice, Doughy things bother me the most, Plus I can't seem to stay away from the liquid during my meals, so I'm pushing the food through to fast. I really have to work on this. Also I have a bad habit of eating during the nite.....thats a real bad habit of mine. Sorry so long

I HAD THE SURGERY THE SAME DAY AS YOU, IVE FELTTHE SAME BUT AFTER MY 3RD FILL, IT HIT HE SPOT, I CAN ONLY EAT 1/2 A CUP OF FOOD AND IF I EAT MORE THAN THAT IT COMES BACK UP, SO IM A REALLY HAPPY WITH THIS FILL, TRUST ME IT WILL GET BETTER.

Ahhh I've hit a plateau! Actually I'm eating the wrong things and too much of them...I'm not quite sure that I need a fill because at times I'm SO tight I can hardly take a bite or two, but it doesn't last long usually - once I get going, slowly, I can eat way more than I should. I hope I haven't stretched my esophagus.... :car:

Today I ate three pieces of pizza for dinner - I'm telling you, the wrong darn foods. At work I do well - it's when I come home that I always fall off the wagon because my hubby, my mom and my daughter buy so much junk food....

Oh well, I'm walking about 2 miles a day now, which is 2 miles a day more than I did for the first 5 months...and it feels SO good to walk! Next week I'm adding 20 minutes a day of strengthening exercises to my regimen. Maybe that will kick start my weight loss despite eating 1500 calories a day... :faint:

Sadly, junk food goes down easy and never 'fills me up'. It just goes and goes. I could eat a whole bag of my ritz chips or a whole box of my weight watcher cake things.. and not bat an eye. It sucks. And when it's TOM, I endulge :car:

But the good news is, no gain, right??

I certainly don't gain during my 'bad times', and it takes only a couple days of strict bandster eating to kick that scale back into shape.

Let the guilt go, move forward! :)

You're right Laura, although I'm home all weekend to cheat LOL....I'll try to behave as best as I can. All this damn Halloween candy isn't helping either! I just went on another walk earlier because I wanted a piece of the cheesecake my daughter made....I'm really starting to like exercising....I would have never thought!!!

Hello. I was baded 4/19/07 and have not had a fill yet. I have lost 52 pounds, went from 283-231. Now I am back up to 237-239. I know it is because I need a fill, which I will get towards the end of the month (I have to pay $150 up front to get one). I am now able to eat what I want, I eat a normal plate size (I dont eat as much as I did before surgery, its still less) I just am worried now that I have stretched my stomach, since I can eat a whole meal...like I know its bad, but I can eat a whole Happy Meal, if I go to AppleBees and get a steak, veggies, and mashed potatoes, I can almost eat all of it. Do you think I stretched my stomach over my band or is this normal because I havent had a fill yet? I was walking 2 miles everyday and thats when I go to my lowest. When it got cold I stopped walking, and now have gained weight back and eating more (and unhealthy things, which I need to stop). I also have been having bad pains in my right side that last for hours, but it is below my port. Does anyone get these pains and know what these are? Sorry for all my complaints...I just needed someone to talk to. Thanks!

OMG....I applaud you for doing so well without a fill. I doubt that you have stretched your stomach. the only restriction you have is just the band itself...you definitely need a fill without question IMO.

The pain thing, I have not had them. Come on over to the main Shrinking Violets page. We are truly a sisterhood over there and would love to have you join our little family!

HELP!

I have a question. I was banded April 6, 2007 and I have lost 65lbs, BUT I really only lose when the band is so tight that I cannot eat and it hurts to drink, and I throw-up a lot. I got a slight unfill 0.5cc and now I have not lost for weeks. I can drink okay now, I can eat Cereal and milk with no problem, but it hurts to eat HEALTHY, i.e. chicken, eggs, lettuce, oatmeal, even Soup with carrots and beef. Do I need another unfill? or to be slapped for eating Cereal for every meal??? HELP!

I was kind of like you and finally had a small unfill .3cc's..... I can eat more than Soup now, but lettuce and eggs always give me problems... my thought is that lettuce wilts and doesn't break down and eggs well they kind of act like little rocks as they are bouncey and don't break down... I have to chew each bite 20 times... but truthfully I get bored doing that and that is why I eat a lot of ground meat.... or I put my chicken in the crock pot.......

I wish I had the willpower to stick to plan with lose restriction, but I don't so finding a happy medium is what I try to do........... GOOD LUCK

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
