hello from galveston.

shriners burn center here is one of the best in the nation. The little girl will be adopted very quickly as there are MANY concerned foster parents inquiring.

the locals have all been talking about it and are just glad the little girl survived.

I hope not. Nuttiness like that runs in the family. The rest of them are probably just as wacked out as the parents.

There was a case in Toronto a year or so ago where a grandparent asked for and received custody of 4 of her grandchildren who had been seized by Children's Aid. The entire extended family lived on welfare and such monies as were contributed by those who were working. There was quite a large number of them living in one house. Well, for some reason two of the four children were isolated to one room and slowly over a period of years both maltreated and slowly starved to death. The grandmother had them drinking Water out of the toilet and eating food out of the dog's bowl when she did let them outside of their room, a room which was underheated in winter, by the way.

After one of the two children died the family called an ambulance. The kid, who was 5 years old, weighed less than an year old. His body was covered in faeces, urine, and mould. The other child, still alive, was in the same condition.

The trial was interesting. The grandmother was found to be of subnormal intelligence with behaviour issues and it was discovered that one of her own babies had died under suspect circumstances when she herself was 17. These are folks who shouldn't be breeding but they do. Children's Aid had goofed when assigning these kids to their grandmother. They hadn't troubled to do a background check. All this info on granny was already in their files.

I have told you this story because my hunch is that this family likely is as stupid and as whacked out as the parents of this baby are.

i doubt that the family will get the kid, but i am sure they will make a play for it. its sad when children are taken out of abusive situations, and put right back into new ones. i hope the judge in her adoption case is smart and gives the kid to a family that will treat this little girl right.

There is a tendency to want to place kids with blood members, I believe. This can work out just fine when it applies to cases where the mother is a drug addict and living on the streets and it is the grandparents who apply to raise their grandchildren.

I think that is a smart thing to do, honestly. but in certain cases it is not good. i hope that because of the severity of the childs abuse, the family is not given guardianship to the baby. it allows the parents close access in the future, which should not be allowed.

Wonder if they make a microwave big enought to fit wacked out Daddy into???? Eye for an eye.....no the parents, nor the parents who raised them...none of them should ever be near this child again. If the grandparents were involved prior, surely they could tell the father was not behaving normally. Same with the Mom and her Mom who went out and left him alone with the infant. They had their chance, they blew it, now let someone who will love her properly raise her. The courts may step in and lock him away, whether in a psych ward or prison---but Mom will likely be let go, and will probably already have another child before it ever goes to court!

I'm sorry I read this thread again... it makes me sick to think of children being mistreated. I know it exists... but it's so horrible.

The whole story makes me want to vomit. Both parents are clearly whacked out and should never be allowed to see that child again. Hopefully the baby will go to a good, loving family who won't share any of this with her. As to the issue of whether this child should have been aborted, the parents could have legally chosen to abort but didn't . . . further demonstrating the fallacy of the argument that abortion prevents child abuse.

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
