Favorite gift you got and gave

Recommended Posts

My favorite gift I received for Christmas this year is a pair of earrings my daughter chose from a Greek festival she attended at college. We had gone to another Greek festival together earlier this last summer, and really liked the jewelry. This gift is special to me for the memory of that day.

My favorite gifts I gave were harlequin mask ornaments from my trip to Venice this year. I give matching ornaments to my two best friends every year, and even though we are miles apart, we have a part of each other on our Christmas tree each year.

How about you?

Best thing I got this year was a handmade clay dish from my niece's kindergarten class - it was so cute!

Most fun thing I gave was a microscope to my nephew, he was super excited about it. That was fun to watch :).

The best gift I think I might get myself now that Christmas is over is a fitbit flex...just trying to justify spending the money on it.

Our Christmas isn't over so I may need to revise this.

My mom gave each of us siblings a 4-in-1 panini press (can be used as a grill, griddle, etc). Since I don't have a stove/oven in my apartment it's going to get lots of use.

I gave all my nieces a Madame Chic book and each of my nephews a hiking guide for their state.

I got a red and white beach cruiser bicycle! I would have posted a pic, but I can't figure out how, lol. Now I just need the weather to get warmer to ride it! Can't wait!

My grown daughter has been learning how to sew. She bought an old sewing machine at a second hand store to learn on. I wanted to see if she was going to stick with it, so when it looked like she was going to, we bought her a brand new fancy one! She was so excited!

I told my hubby the only thing I really wanted was a Fitbit, and he got me one ! Yay ! My favorite gift to give was a really nice pair of headphones to my hubby because he loves to listen to music, and he was' nt expecting them ! He's hard to buy for because I don't know enough about his hobbies (hunting, fishing , golf) to get him the right stuff, but I hit the jackpot with the headphones !

WE BOUGHT A PUPPY!!!!! Exactly 6 months ago today our dog died unexpectedly and our entire family was crushed. We decided at that time to not replace her immediately. At the time I was already in the first few months of my pre-surgical screening and was only weeks away from having two other surgeries in preparation for this BIG surgery. We were also planning a move to be closer to family and friends while we started this new journey as a family towards health, wellness, and less stress. We decided that once we were moved and we knew about surgery dates, we would discuss when getting a puppy would be a good time. We moved in September, and in November my cousins pure bred Collie had her first litter of pups! She offered us one just weeks prior to my surgery and we just knew the timing would be perfect! By the time she is ready to come to her new home, I will be recovered and I will have a walking buddy! We kept it a secret from the children until yesterday and gave them a wrapped box (since pup can't leave her mother for another two weeks) with a puppy bed, toys, dishes, balls, and a stocking with her name on it. Her name is Rosie and we all agree that she is the BEST gift we could give or receive!!!!

Gingerisgreat, congratulations on so many things, especially the puppy ! We've had 2 Smooth Collie dogs over the years, best family dogs ever ! Smart, loving, great with kids, protective by barking, but not aggressive. Loved our cats too, very "mommyish" with cats and kids. Have fun with Rosie !

I got some Chanel No. 5 from the hubby and since I LOVE, live, breath haute couture I was ecstatic!

This sounds corny but my favorite gift was just having my son over, daughter home from college, hubby not deployed, bro-in-law over, and puppy dog all together under one roof. ☺️???????? Add to this the fact that my folks are still here, healthy, fit and living life and that I have the folks here at Bariatricpal & I can say I've had a wonderful Xmas. Of course, Chanel helped too, Lol! ????

My other favorite gift was waking up knowing I didn't have to exhaustively fight off the holiday food monsters! Sure, we have a ton of holiday food in the house but I feel as strong and as Zen as my man Bruce Lee! LOL

Happy holidays to you all. Here's to keeping the spirit year-round.

I swear by my Fitbit. It helps me stay in track.

Word of caution, don't do like I did and wear the band too tight. In trying to get used to this smaller body, I wore the band too tight and got a rash and I swear that thing bit me...as I had a small red bump on my wrist right where the actual chip sits. It hurt and itched. I ended up putting my cortisone cream on it and it looked and felt much better after a day.

I do have sensitive skin so I should've known better.

I am crocheting an all cotton replacement band so that air can circulate thereby reducing rashes, etc.

My Mom was nice enough and bought me s new Weight Watchers scale! I love it, it does everything.

Does it give you the read outs like the scale at the NUTS?

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
