10 days post-op: diet help

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

Merry Christmas :)

I'm having issues with the liquid diet.< /p>

I'm not really eating much, probably getting in less than ten grams of Protein a day. I'm starting to feel tired and dizzy from lack of eating. I'm trying my bed to drink Water all the time but it's just been so tough!

Any one else struggling with this? It seems impossible :(

Two big questions:

1. When did you start scrambled eggs. I think I'd get in way more protein if I could scramble up some egg whites.

2. Fruits! I know that fruits are high in sugar so having too much is a no no. But I was thinking of making a smoothie with strawberries and apples. Thoughts?

Every surgeon is different. My surgery was one week ago today and I have been moved to puréed, including eggs. I get to move to soft food next week. I have had no problems eating or drinking Water. I am not hungry and I set a timer to eat and drink and I eat less than 1/2 cup at a time. I eat lots of Greek yogurt which is a great way to get a lot of Protein.

Good luck and Happy New Year.

Laura

I would be very careful with fruit if your surgery was very recent. Your tummy needs time to heal. Fresh fruit especially can be problematic. I was 8 weeks post op before they allowed fresh fruits. At 4 weeks I was allowed very small amounts of canned fruits. Are you on a full liquid diet including Protein drinks? If so, they are what is going to make you feel much stronger.

Also, it sounds like you could be dehydrated! You can get very sick from that. The dizzy symptom tells me you could be very dehydrated. The most important thing for you is to get Fluid in your body, if that Fluid contains Protein that is even better.

I was told to focus on the following right after,

1. Get your water/fluids in. You must stay hydrated - it's hard but do the very best you can.

2. Protein is key to make you feel stronger

3. Vitamins are very important or you could end up with deficiencies that will cause problems down the road

4. Walk

I know you probably don't want to hear all this, but it is the truth. You will feel better if you can focus on the above.

I really hope you start to feel better soon!

I am 8 days post op and I completely understand you. I wish I could at least be able to eat some berries or citrus to get some flavor in my mouth. I've been only drinking Water, broth, and taking my Vitamins haven't been drinking my Proteins as I should be ????. I was on stage two (full liquids) that didn't go well so I have to give my body some more time to heal. But I wonder how long does it take after surgery to be able to eat? I know it will never be like before and I'm glad but when is it ok to have a few bites of salad or tuna or few berries??

I tried some fruit and dumped :( also from mashed potatoes. Be very careful with carbs.

Light yogurt with a little bit of peaches was okay for me. Also Decaf coffee was a nice addition for a change in taste.

I know your inns hurry to eat eggs but sadly you may be sick of them too in no time. It's hard in the beginning.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
