It still stings...

No matter how many times some kid tells my daughter that her mommy is fat it still hurts me every single time. And not even for me, but for her. My 6 year old should not have to stick up for me to other kids because of how I look. And bless her little heart for telling that girl not to talk bad about her Mom because her Mom is losing wieght and gonna be skinny soon. I just wish I had never allowed myself to get in the position I am in right now so that she would not have to deal with it. You know what gets me the most is that the other little girl's Mom was sitting right behind me at our daughter's softball game and said nothing about it. I am so glad that my children know enough to show respect to others and not say things that will hurt people feelings. But then again that probably come down to parenting.

I hear you, babygirl. One of the lowest moments of my life was at my daughter's preschool, when one of her friends leaned over and "whispered" to another one about how fat Gillian's mommy was. As they say, kids can be cruel.

That really burns my ass. It does come down to parenting. Shame on her for not teaching her kids how to be kind, or at least to keep their mouths shut....

Take some consolation in this, though, we always get as good as we give. She'll get hers.

I've taught my kids to respond to statments like that with "Yeah?? and??" I told my daughters from an early age that being called fat is only stating the obvious and that they shouldn't get hurt or offended by it.

Now, yes it hurts that someone wants to hurt my child by cutting me or her daddy down, but I will NOT let my kids think they have to ashamed of my obesity! My issues show on the outside...via FAT. Who know's what issues "their" parents have...alcohol? drugs? work-a-holic? cheating parents? neglectful parents? etc... I let my kids know "children like that have parents that have bigger problems than me, so we should feel sorry for them." Fortunately, we haven't dealt with a whole lot of it, but it does happen from time to time and perhaps my approach is a little unorthodox, but I want my kids to know that a fat person is a person with the same value as anyone else.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
