Cream of Wheat nightmare! Help!

Recommended Posts

I'm 6 days post op and I decided to eat about an ounce of plain cream of wheat made with milk. It hit my sleeve

Like a ton of bricks. I walked the length of my deck 100 times which helps, but is still very much trying to get thru my sleeve. Help! What should I do? I am miserable!

Sorry this happened to you. My nutritionist calls it stacking and it is uncomfortable. Walking is good . If you have tums or omeprazole it may help. Sadly the only thing that really helps is time. It may be a few hours of discomfort. You may need to wait a while longer before eating cream or wheat or eat even slower.

Thanks. I have taken 2 gas x strips, have a heating pad on my belly and standing up swaying back and forth. The entire abdomen is bloated, instead of just the upper abd. I guess it just slowly making it down.

If I eat something that Miss Tummy objects to, she will keep me miserable for at least four hours. She definitely is the boss of me. No amount of Water helps - it just takes time to work through.

@@Susanfnp13 Sorry for your misery. I'm also 6 days post op and anything I eat besides popsicles, luigis, tea, and crystal lite makes me feel ill. I'm not allowed to have cream of wheat for another 8 days.

Maybe it was just to soon for you. Also, make sure you are making it very, very, very soupy. It can't be thick like normal.

Feel better soon.

Just want to say that because cream of wheat (or any "new" food that doesn't sit well the first time you try it post-op) bit you today, in a month or two it might cause you no problems at all.

My nurse said to always have Papaya Enzyme on hand. It works quick when you feel like something is "stuck". I have it at home but haven't had to use it yet.

@@GenaW828 I gave up Protein shakes after the pre op diet. I just can't stomach them anymore. I'm a fresh fruits and veggies type of girl and the Protein Shakes taste so artificial they make me nauseous.

I just bought some grits, oatmeal, and cream of wheat to prepare for Step 3 of the post op diet. They are all instant so I'm hoping they won't hit me so hard, but I'll make them very soupy just in case.

Thanks guys. We'll it took most of the night to get the cream of wheat down and I didn't feel great the next day. I'm back on Clear Liquids. I never want that to happen again! I need to remember that night during Christmas festivities. It is much better to feel good and not eat than to eat something that may make me miserable. Thanks for all the support!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
