And I am really thinking about have a weightloss surgery. I have an appointment with Dr on January 7th to discuss. My question is if anyone else here has had the surgery and which one with a diagnosis of PCOS? Also how much weight have you lost and do you feel it was a slower weightloss due to having PCOS? Love seeing pics also...

Double-whammy of PCOS and Hashimotos for me. I lost slowly but very steady. I only had 1 or 2 stalls.

I'm in menopause, so no cycles. Many others have posted that theirs returned to normal though.

Hi I have PCOS as well, My highest weight was 253. My surgery was 11/18/2013 and I was 238. currently, I'm 179.7 It has been slow but likewise, steady. I started losing like 5-7 pounds a month, now is like 2-3.5 a month and I had a couple stalls as well. Before surgery, I had the worst pms ever, It lasted like 10 days then I would get my period and in less then two weeks I would start pmsing again, so my doctor had me on birth control and metformin. I hated both, so I stopped taking them when I had the lap band surgery. Currently, I no longer have those extended pms symptoms, my period at first was regulated like once every 28 days, but recently started acting up again, twice a month, every 19-23 days so my Doctor just put me on Provera.

At the end of the day, I love my band, believe it or not, as much as we want to loss weight really fast, we are better off losing the weight little by little, it allows the body to adjust and to keep the weigh off longer.

I have PCOS and Hashimoto's also. Weight loss went pretty quickly for me when stay on plan and workout regularly. I got an IUD a few months after surgery which dramatically reduced my periods and PSOS symptoms.

I had borderline PCOS and insulin resistance. I've lost about 90 lbs and my periods regulated...and know I just got a surprise BFP this month! I've heard some very positive things about WLS and PCOS.

I have a lot of friends on Instagram who have PCOS and had WLS. Most of them have the sleeve. And they are doing well! Some are even PCOS free now!

I have PCOS also had the DS surgery on 8-6-2013 and I've lost a total of almost 200 lbs. I started at 350lbs and am 165lbs. I've had some stalls but all in all I'm pretty happy with my results being 1 yr 5 months post op I think I've done pretty good. I still wasn't too loose between 20-40lbs but with the excess skinmy drs say in at a good weight if I evert want the skin removed... oh and my PCOS was testosterone based my testosterone was OVER 100 and is now down to 18. Although I had regular cycles before my surgery since they've been crazy... anywhere between 12-20 day cycles but sometimes I'll bleed 2 weeks straight. Since ice been stalled and on bcp for a couple months they've gotten regular now. Hoping to get my BFP sometime soon.

Does anyone know which sugery would be better for PCOS. The sleeve or bypass

I have PCOS, had the sleeve, lost a ton of weight and have pretty regular periods for the first time in my life. My doc said that he thinks 5 years from now sleeve could be considered a viable (i.e. covered) treatment for the most stubborn PCOS (like mine).

I have PCOS. I have the lap band. I am just starting out with the lap band. I can't say which WLS is best for PCOS? I had a few doctors tell me lap band, but I don't know?

I have my first appointment (the all day one...at least that's how they do it in MN) on Feb 19. I'm EXCITED. I truly believe PCOS makes it almost impossible to lose weight. My BMI is 35 but I have high blood pressure and am pre-diabetic. I've been doing WW for a year and keep gaining and losing the same 10 lbs. I'm ready to GO!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
