Post op diet struggles

Recommended Posts

Screwed up my post op diet and went through my stages and found I could eat actual food. Not making unhealthy choices or eating too much. Chewing til mush. But. I should be having purées. Should I go back to them? I am more concerned about my belly than my weight loss in that regard I guess.

I would go back to mush or at the very least call my doctor and ask if I could advance. I thought the stages would take a lot longer but was approved to move to hard foods at 6 weeks. Your tummy is like a new born baby and you want

to treat it as such. Try to follow doctor's order. The doc is the expert.

I went through the stages very quickly as well and was eating real food with no issues at 2 1/2 weeks. My Dr (center for bariatric excellence) was fine with it. He wanted to make sure my calorie and Protein intake were where they were supposed to be but basically said if you feel OK keep going. I had surgery the Tuesday before thanksgiving and am down 30lbs: taking in 600-700 calories per day 80ish grams of protein. Seems to be working great for me so ask your Dr and see what he says.

@@lily0327 I don't know if going back would change anything just call your surgeon and ask.

by 6 wks I just tolerated what my tummy would. i went back in forth. I am 5 months out for the first 3 months or so I still mostly stuck with softer side..I would eat a bite or 2 of grilled chicken an at times I could feel like it was a bit to early so I would back off. I figured I would be more on the safe side ...still chew really good an eat slow. my dr told me if I can tolerate then fine all tummys heal differant paces. I didnt even do the puree...I ate the soft things an then trial an error on like the chicken or tuna..etc...you didnt screw up..I still at times for a meal would rather just drink my Protein or eat soft..if I dont have to cook I dont..haha..:)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
