I was so very fortunate that I didn't experience nausea. My surgeon gave me several anti nausea meds before surgery and I've always tolerated anesthesia well. If you are five weeks out, that is something you should see your doctor about.

Are you eating the recommended foods at five weeks out?

After you have the surgery you have to view your sleeve as an infants tummy. You introduce one new food at at time and see if that food settles well on the tummy. If you eat something and don't have a reaction, you know it's safe to consume that type of food.

I really think you need to talk to your doctor's office. You are too close to surgery for a lay person like myself to be able to give you good advice.

I hope you communicate with your doctor's office quickly and get this resolved and it is nothing serious.

Blessings,

Kathleen

No. At some point, you really don't feel that anymore. Take advantage of the period of time when food is completey unappealing... that is when you have your best losses, and get a chance to change your relationship with food. Hang in there, it gets better.

My sleeve was dec 11 2011 - 3 years out and maintaining 160# loss - worth it!

I was released with a nausea pill and a nausea patch and used both for the first 5 days or so. After that, didn't really need anything. I do take a PPI twice a day (and probably will for life as I had reflux to begin with). After the initial healing period of the first few weeks, the only time I got nauseated was if I over ate or ate too fast which is still the case at 14 months out, (but not to the degree it was at 6 months out).

I am 15 months out now and I don't feel nausea as much as I can immediately tell when I've either eaten too much or eaten something I shouldn't have. It results in excessive burping and near immediate barfing. Then I feel all better. Every once in awhile if I try something crazy (like Peruvian ceviche) a few weeks ago I get not only barfing sick but nauseous for a few hours. It's fairly rare but there has been at no point after the first week of surgery where I was as sick, dizzy, and otherwise miserable as those first three days.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
