Not understanding these LAP-Band fills......

Recommended Posts

At 4 weeks post op I had first fill. I learned I had 2.5 put in at surgery time. I have a 14 band. She did an aggressive fill and added 4 for a total of 6.5, two weeks later with no restriction, she added another 1.5 for a total of 8, two weeks later with no restriction, she added 1 for a total of 9......... So now I'm feeling something.... First few bites of anything feels like a lump that goes up and down up and down for a few minutes, not seriously painful but definitely not comfortable.... I still don't notice being satisfied with smaller portions yet, so no weightloss yet, is is possible to feel what I described, and still be in the yellow?

It's possible, but instead of so much restriction, you should be feeling less of an appetite. At least that's the way it was explained to me. It's a fine balance of some restriction and less appetite. I'm still searching for mine. I've had 5 fills and I'm getting close to that green zone.

For some reason it takes me several days for a fill to settle in. I have had several fills but my surgeon doesn't share the amoun -- knows I'd obsess, lol. Just keep doing what you're doing, really really noticing whether you're hungry and when, how long, etc. And practice chewing really well. Eating slowly and no sliders. You'll get this thing!

Read everything you can. The band is a tool.

I'm reading, and I understand it's a tool, but i need this tool to activate:/ just because I dont feel restriction, doesn't mean I eat whatever I want whenever I want, it just means I'm struggling being good:( I had such great restriction for about a week after last fill, then it was gone, I find that to be odd

My fills take a week or more to settle in too. I've had five fills and the latest one was only 0.1 cc. It feels different after a week. It's also not the level I'll be at for life. As my body changes, my stomach size changes, and an adjustment may be needed months or years down the road.

@@MamaRita it really helped me to understand about the chewing and how the esophagus signals to the brain are what triggers satiety. When I started chewing more mindfully that made a big difference. I had to go for denser foods than I was having -- and now I mix things into my yogurt, for example, so it's not a slider for me. Protein Shakes don't work for me except as a treat -- no satiety is triggered because I didn't chew and swallow.

Makes me feel better knowing the fills can change after a week, and I will concentrate more on chewing as well:) also I weighed this morning, which I haven't done in a week, due to fear of what it might say, sense I claim I don't notice this band, and to my surprise I was down 4 pounds, so maybe it's working more then I realize :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
