Slack,

There are several things you can do to reduce the twins' discomfort... First, make sure that your seat is level, if the horn of the seat is raised even a few degrees, it will put a lot of pressure on them. Easiest thing to do is to put a carpenter's level across the seat and adjust as necessary. Although it may seem like a good idea, don't angle the seat down, it causes a whole different set of problems. Also, like JC said, a bigger seat is not usually better, it just spreads the problem around.

The second thing that will help is a proper pair of bike shorts - you know, the spandex kind. There are many, many advantages. They have a pad in them that provides extra protection to your bits as well as your sit bones (which is where most of the pressure from the seat should be). They are also designed so that there are no seams on your inner thighs, the crease between your buttocks and legs, or anywhere else that may cause chafing. As has been mentioned here before, do not wear anything under the bike shorts, you will be chafed and end up with saddle sores. You can wear sweat shorts or something light over them if you prefer. Finding them in large sizes can be tough, and even then, picking the right size can be hard. I found some at Aero Tech Designs.

I hope that some of this helps.

I was thinking we should try to decide who's bringing what supplies. I usually have a protien shake, granola bar and a cup of coffee for Breakfast.< /p>

lunch is taken care of, so supper is a question. I can bring cooking supplies. I have three Stoves, a cook station table, I even have a small dining/shelter fly and some folding camp chairs. I don't mind bringing what's needed. I am kinda lacking in the lantern area from the last tropical storm I camped in it was so bad that my son's tent ended up in Appalachicola bay.

I am not sure what kind of clothes to bring. I know I can look up weather conditions, but numbers do not always tell the whole story. We get humid here and may have a tremendous variance between our highs and lows. Makes some nights seem or feel chillier or hotter than you would expect if you just read the numbers.

Maybe we should do a chatroom planning session. What do you guys think?

I slept 7 hours last night!!! Wow! I am stiff from being down so long, but I feel so rested I can't believe it, amazing. Thanks BG!

I will be at Scout meeting tonight. We are down to three things to finish for this project! I think we can knock them out before the meeting. I will be so glad to have this behind us, I can't wait to share the b4 & After pics. John really kicked it on this thing, I am as proud as any one bonehead parent can be!

Buddy update, my good good boy is back to his old self! He tried to tackle me and clean my face yesterday when we got back from Scout project. He did not even whimper or try to give me a hug the day I took him to the vet, so this is a welcome improvement!

HP It's real! I am getting stoked too, must train harder! I don't want you guys to just leave me sitting still.

B, I looked at the Grumpy photos she is a sweetheart! I wish two things, I wish I knew Buddies mix and I wish I had puppy pics.

Allen County Parks » NEAT - North East Allen Tour for bicycles

That site has registration forms.

JC thanks for reserving the site. Let me know how much I owe you. A chat session would probably be best in planning stuff. I am so excited that this is actually going to happen. Now if only i can con DH into using some of his financial aid for school to buy me a road bike...hmmmm. Otherwise i will be bringing up the rear on my mountain bike lol.

Oh and I have a screen tent so we can keep all the food, coolers, cocktails (for recovery purposes of course) away from the animals. I also have camping chairs and have access to a small propane grill if we need it. Weather wise it is probably hit and miss. If it is anything like Michigan I would say bring some shorts and t shirts and long pants and sweatshirts. It could be in the 60s or 70s during the day but down in the lower 50s at night. Not so hot and muggy like Florida JC.

I'm down for a chat. But I don't know what I contribute. Nearly all my equipment happily went with the ex. I asked to borrow stuff back for the weekend but she too is camping that weekend. I do have a tent and the stuff that's needed in the tent, I have chairs and a cooler, but I don't have the wear-with-all to cook.

I have the ability to go to a restaurant. HA.

However, I can actaully cook. Like it's been my job before, so I can be helpful in that way. In the morning I just need to boil Water for tea or have coffee. dinner can be whatever you want. Zoe can live on Cereal, fruit, and PBJ sandwiches.

BG-I love the idea of recovery cocktails. And you might want to look at bikes because it's the end of the season, there may be some good deals to be had on 2007 bikes. Just a thought.

Tell me where and when I'll tune in.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
D. I'm so stoked for you new bike. I haven't taken a minute to say, wOO Freaking Hoo to you. Not that I'm counting but is this not your third bike this year? Got to love it!
Please send us a picture of the bike or a link so we can see what she looks like.
LOL...thanks for keeping track J....that is so funny you mention that, yes, three bikes this freakin year. First, started out with the Scwinn, then the sport comfy, now the road bike. DH is already talking about getting mountain bikes next year. We have LOTS of mountain trails here. In fact, there are a ton of rides, for mountain bikers. Maybe BG needs to live here.
BG, I can't really afford it either, but when I was thinking about the financial aid, I was like, oh to hell with it, I deserve this bike. I have worked my ass off, and I am getting it!!!!Maybe one of your LBS has a layaway program. I know one of mine does. I was already saving for one, but I just couldnt wait anymore. I don't have little kids to have daycare expenses for either, so maybe next year you can got one.
Slack, DEFINITELY get some bike shorts with padding.
JC, glad you pup is doing better.
HP, your new pup is soooo dang sweet!!
I will post a picture of bike sometime this week. Mom called last night and she is not coming until Wednesday. Oh well, at least the house is clean. I don't see her very often, HP. She came the day of surgery to the hospital and then I saw her about two months ago, she met me halfway between our houses when I had a fill appt. She is a nurse and wanted to see then fill process. But I didn't get one then, so she was disappointed!!!
Well, kids, I have to go up to the college and get the rest of my books this morning, so I will talk at you all later. Hey let me know when you are getting on the chat thing, I know I am not going, but I would like to sit in with you guys and talk to ya all!!!
Oh, B, I left you out. Maybe your wife is one of my mom's long lost children. JK, she doesn't have long lost children, I don't think. Clean is good, but sometimes it feel uncomfortable at her house, like everything will break because it is sooooo clean, like noone ever uses anything. I like to have the lived in look myself, so people feel comfortable at least coming over.
Oh D!
Wow, that last one, about loving life is nearly making me cry.
I'm freaking out a lot right now. I put my finger on it last night which is helping me cope, but I am not my normal chipper self.
My issue is that there is a WHOLE LOT OF CHANGING going on in my universe right now. And that always makes me edgy, but everything is changing and it's good but not predictable so I'm freaking out.
Kid is starting school-YEAH!
Work dynamics are changing because it's fall-CAN'T STOP IT.
My body is changin-THAT'S THE PLAN!
My schedule with the GF is changing- CAN'T BE HELPED.
I've got a conference to go to in 3 weeks.-THAT'S RARE.
New subject in school that I don't excell at.-THAT JUST PISSES ME OFF.
So, I'm rolling with the punches and managing my time so I don't lose touch with what's important of miss some of the things that need addessed...
But when I read what you wrote, I thought you know, I feel so much better than I can remember. I love my fitness level and how I can do so much more than ever before.
Thanks D, for the reminder.
Hey, I am soooo glad that it touched you!!! It touch me too!!! I mean, seriously, life was no good to me four months ago. Hurt to walk, hurt to do anything, all I wanted to do was shove food into my mouth and swallow whole, as much food in as little time possible. You have a huge amount on your plate!!! You are kicking your weights ass and that is what is important. Well, and you have people who love you and people to love. That is what it is all about and now you are going to be around a whole long time to love them!!!!
This fitness thing is a huge accomplishment to each and every one of us. We should be so very proud of ourselves. I cleaned my whole house yesterday and was still moving around and I even got a ride in before doing that!!! Now THAT is something to be proud of, for me.
You all are soooo awesome and inspiring to me...DAILY!!!! You all say things that mean a lot, even when not talking directly to me.
J, you are awesome that you can put into words the exact changes in your life and know that ones you can change and the ones you can't.
Went and got the rest of my books, now I gotta get my scrubs. Waiting until last minute to do that....
I know that with my schedule this semester I will not have the time to devote to exercise that I did have this summer. That is partly why I did so much this summer, because I knew this fall would be a bitch. I feel for your class that pisses you off, that is how my Anatomy and Physiology was, at first. It ended up being my favorite class so far. Ok folks, gotta go see DH for lunch. He works three minutes from home. Gotta love that!!!
Well aren't we having a love fest. Sorry fellas, we get a little misty sometimes. :pout:
:think
But really, people who think there's not an emotional element to this journey are fooling themselves.
D-
Don't be surprised if you find time to sneak in some exercise. Now that you know how it makes you feel you be prone to find a few minutes here or there.
I have to say, I got my ass into the gym today and decided to do an extra sweaty workout. I got on the treadmill and did a walk run thing...walk 2 minutes, run for one or as long as possible...I did that for 15 then I did 10 minutes on the stair master. HOLY CRAP that kicked my ass. I was literally dripping sweat on the machine. Of course it's the day two people interruped my workout for work related questions. (my office is 50 feet away from the fitness center). I had mascara smudged under my eyes...the people didn't linger...you know when you get the feeling you are not welcome. Hehehehe.
I have a email into my professor asking for additional resources.
I made the GF's new neice a scrapbook for her baptism, her brother called her to say he was very touched. She called me to say it was a hit. That helped my day too. So all in all, the afternoon is better than the morning. :car: :biggrin1:
D - Your post touched me, as well. I'm sitting here misty-eyed. You are my hero - all of you are. I am a Brandon-come-lately to this thread, but you all have taught me that the band will enable me to meet my fitness and life goals, not get in the way, and that with hard work, those goals can be reached in an amazingly short period of time (although it may not feel that way as its happening.)
I do hope to meet all of you someday, but if not, know that what you have done this summer will stay with me, in my mind (when I need a swift kick in the ass), in my heart, and in my belly...
      I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!
      Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!
        I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗
        Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.
        I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.
        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!
        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.
        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.
        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
