Hi, Folks!

While I've yet to be banded, I thought I'd check out the biking forum.

I see a lot of talk about sore butts yet nothing about the benefits of recumbent bikes! A recumbent will result in your butt no longer being a topic of conversation!

Mine is like a recliner with pedals!

Cheers...Larry

Do you hear it?? It's the countdown timer until my post-surgery appt. on Friday am, when I can get cleared to get back on my bike. Whoooeeee!!

I started riding on a "hybrid". No...not like a Toyota Prius, this was a Trek that was supposed by be a cross between a mountain bike and a road bike. It weighed about 7,000 pounds and was indestructable. It was great when I was always riding with a toddler or preschooler in a set behind me. It was like a semi truck - hard getting up the hills, but ohhhhh the momentum on the downhills. In fact, my daughter (now 22) used to say "go for the mo, mom!" when she was about 3.

Then I died and went to heaven. OK..ok...so I didn't really die but getting my Cannondale road bike was a lot like heaven. I remember the first time I got on it and pedalled. It was like swimming, no pushing the weight of the bicycle, I felt positively bouyant. My cycling buddy called it my "nerf bike" since it's so light. I love it!

So, I guess my rambling recollections are a roundabout way of saying that what bike works for you evolves over time. It really doesn't matter - what matters is the joy of the road. Get out there and ride!

By the way, HP, great jersey! And you have a PURPLE bike?! Double sweet!

For those debating what is between Chicago and Seattle, I have to speak up for pigs to go with the corn. After riding RAGBRAI (the cross-Iowa ride) a couple of times, I can say with absolute confidence that it smelled like Iowa was predominantly made up of pig farms!

Born in Nebraska, I also have to mention that fine football also comes out of that region. Many a solid defensive player is "corn fed". Unfortunately, there is also a bumper crop of grasshoppers, flooding, tornadoes, republicans, and snow (depending on the time of year).

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
