6 Days Post-Op

Recommended Posts

I can't believe that it's already been 6 days since my lap-band surgery.

I'm doing really well, still a bit sore but that is only at the port site, and I had been warned about that. I also get a fair bit of gas pain, but that is also to be suspected too.

The hardest thing for me at the moment is the Fluid diet. Living on juice, smoothies and Soup is really very difficult and I can totally see how some people weaken at this point and eat solid food before the band has had time to settle.

The thought of all the money that I've spent and that I have come this far already without doing the wrong thing is enough for me to continue on. I have one more week of fluids and 2 weeks of soft foods before I can live normally again. It isn't forever and will be so worth it in the end.

On the day of my surgery I had officially lost 5.6kg on the Optifast diet which I was so happy about. I had expected a bit more but the Optifast program had bound things up a bit (so to speak) so that halted things a little.

I'm also finding this to be an issue this first week post-op as well so I am expecting the first few weeks to move along pretty slowly. Once I am eating and exercising properly I am sure I will fall into a rhythm and will worry about it from then. I'll weight myself tomorrow morning and let you know how I go.

Anyway, thanks for reading and joining me on my journey xxx

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
