Hi there. My name is Jess and I live in Oregon. I am 23 (24 next month). I am 5'5" and ~250lbs. This month I am going off depo prevera and eliminating all carbonated and alcoholic beverages from my diet. I already exercise three to four times a week (going to do more soon). On average I lose maybe a pound or two a month, but gain double that in muscle.

I am considering lap band, and have been doing research on it the last couple weeks. I even got to watch it done through a streamed video. In the next week or so I'm going to be inquiring of my doctors a specialist I could get more information from. In the mean time I was wondering if there was anyone here from Oregon or the Northwest area who I could ask some questions of.

Nice to meet you all, hope to hear from you soon. :(

Jess :)

HI there,

I am pretty sure but I am not certain, that my dr. is the least expensive in Oregon. I had my surgery for $10,000. Where do you live in Oregon. Dr. Tersigni is a great doctor. There are people coming from all over that go to him. Is your insurance paying for it or are you a self pay?

Not sure yet how much my insurance will pay. I only have one year left on it. But 10k sounds like a nice price. I live in Tualatin, work in Portland. Do you have an instant messanger we could talk with sometime?

Thanks everyone for the welcome.

I went to MX for my lapband. The cost has only recently come down for self pay in the states---better late than never!

Cool! I'm just down Tualatin-Sherwood road from Newberg. :) You and I should chat or text sometime and see if we can do some of the hard work together.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
