Advice needed

Recommended Posts

I am in the UK and due to be sleeved on the 20th December (merry xmas)

I start my pre op diet in 2 days my surgeon has told me to stick to milk an yogurt, and if i am honest i am bit nervous!!!

What wil i experience while on this diet will I feel tired all the time? will i suffer from Constipation?

After the op how long does it take bfore I am able to get in the gym an lift weights etc? Is it possible to tone muscle an build while living at a calorie defecit?

What type of weight loss can i experience in the first weeks? my starting weight is 454lbs and i am 6ft 2ins

Is there any website where i can i find recepies etc espically for men who have had the op

any help; or advice would be welcome

I think that, besides the milk and yogurt, you need to get Protein powder, preferably 100% Protein isolate which is most absorbable. Most nutritional pre-op programs in the United States say that you need 60 - 80 grams of protein, closer to the 80 for men.

Immediately post-op I was allowed to lift no more than 25lbs. at a time. After one month, there was no restriction.

I agree with the above comment on Protein. Yes you are going to feel tired as you are going on a severe calorie restrictive diet. You will eventually adjust but in my experience things were up and down until several weeks after surgery.

My doctor would not let me hit the weight seriously until about eight weeks after surgery. I am one year from surgery and have lost 175 pounds. I find it hard to put on any real muscle due to the calorie restriction. I tried lifting heavy for a while and all I did was get sore shoulders and knees. Now I stick mostly to toning and high intensity training. I have put on some muscle, but it is mostly just toning and tightening. I would really need to increase my protein to try to add muscle and that would have to be by drinking shakes all the time because my stomach couldn't take the solid protein.

I'm happy though with my development. Can see muscles I haven't seen since I was a teenager.

Constipation is a problem. I took a couple of sugar free Fiber tablets 3 times a day and extra magnesium supplements. Get an approved laxative with A STOOL SOFTENER (you will thank me) to have on hand. It's just part of the deal. But the benefits are worth that minor problem. Its a journey, not a magic bullet.

Protein is your major friend and necessity. Congrats on your upcoming surgery. start getting your body use to the gym and increased physical activity, it'll help after surgery. I bet you will see 20+ lbs in the first 2 weeks. let that motivate you to keep going. best of luck. cheers

My experience at Little Aston is that they will want you on liquids post-op for far too long of which they will have asked your doctor to prescribe you 4 weeks worth of Protein supplements.

I moved onto Soups and then purée after 2 weeks as I couldn't live with the 100% liquid regime. I took some flack about that from the nutritionalist but I'm still here after 7 weeks and am on totally normal foods (including bread and rice) now and have been for a week or more.

I got taken off any Protein supplements at 5 weeks and told to get all I need from my regular diet. It works well so far. I did have a load of excess Protein Powder that I gave to my son-in-law :)

Weight loss stalled twice about 10 days after surgery and I then had 15 days (8 days and then 7 days in two bouts) where I lost nothing. I'm now loosing steadily and as of a week ago I was down 4 stone 5lbs so by the time I weigh again I should be shaking 5 stone off.

You're a week away from surgery so I guess your getting excited...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
