Things a Vegetarian should know before getting the sleeve?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Yes you can always message someone.

I think where I got my biggest help is from following Dr. Garth Davis, and just looking at anything vegetarian that gives recipes. I also have Indian/Hindu people, where the diet is very very tasty, and they do emphasis on the flavors in the dishes, not salt, fat, sugar.

You also want to make the decision as to the type of food you want to eat. There are those who eat only fish, some poultry, some eat eggs and cheese, some don't. You sort of want to figure out what lifestyle you want to go for and then find the recipes. That's what I do.

It also depends on whether or not you are willing to try other cuisines. I'll eat anything if I can keep it down. I can eat some spice, it is the salt, sugar, etc. that I don't do well with. I can do a tiny bit at a time, but otherwise, whoops it is going to bite me.

I can do chickpeas but not hummus. I can do a whole egg but not only egg whites. LOL.

YES! I order an egg white omelet once when out to brunch because it was the safest thing on the menu. I think I would rather have eaten my shoe. It was disgusting.

@@talkingmountain - I'm online often. feel free to drop me a message anytime. I'm thinking of making the transition to vegan. I may go see the homepath and discuss it with him. I expect this second year to be more challenging than the first and this may be the thing to help get me through it.

@@Daisydawn34 Could you help me understand your post. I got the first couple of items, after the sleeve date I'm lost. I'm glad you are vegetarian. Even eating less meat helps. :)

Are you eating any fruit? Mine would go into the 50's and stayed in teh late 60's to early 70's sometimes.

Yes, I eat fruit, apples, berries, bananas and melons. It seems as though they metabolize really fast, I will start to feel shaky, hot and sweaty within an hour. I will check my blood and it can be anywhere from the high 40's - the low 60's. Sent message to PCP for an appointment.

I recently (2 months) started a plant based diet. I feel wonderful, I have not had any stomach problems. However, my sugar level drop really low ( 47, 52,62). Has anyone experience this.

With the exception of my D levels, I have been insanely steady throughout this whole process.

Are you getting in any carbs? Not processed carbs, but healthy ones from things like whole grains. They don't run through you as fast a fruit and may prevent those dips. It's one of the reasons why I don't do low carb. A healthy dose of carbs is actually good for you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
