Hello All! Considering the Lap-Band for my health!

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody,

I normally lurk on websites like this absorbing information and ideas to help me make decisions. But, I feel that this is something that I'll need to find a support group to help me understand what is going on with this process. Its not like buying a new Truck!

I'm a 44 year old Man that has gained a remarkable amount of weight since having a Motorcycle accident in 1995. I weighed in at 220lbs at 6' 1" and was very happy. After the accident, my activity level dropped to nothing due to the complications I had with my leg and knee. Finally had a total knee replaced, but by then, the weight had taken over and I was doomed to being overweight.

I currently weight in at 340lbs, I have a BMI of 46.1 and have no energy, joint pain, easily exhausted, etc...

I'm hoping this is the right journey for me to take. I do like the non-permanent installation of this device. Also the adjustability of the device to help me control at a later date.

I look forward to reading and meeting a great many people on this forum..

Byron

Hi Byron, Welcome!

I'm fairly new myself. My surgery is set for this monday, so I'm just absorbing all the good info and support that is aplenty on this board. Again, welcome and if you need anything, let us know! :)

I lurked around here for about a year....I talked to my family, I talked to my friends, I talked to my Dr. and I finally took the plunge. I guess I was looking for someone to say O NO don't do it. I was scared of the unknown but I was really scared of the scale going up and up. I am 50 and fairly active, but I could not control my portions. I finally decided to go for it, I could not go another decade fat. I had my surgery 6 days ago and I feel great! I was soooo scared but I was in at 6:30 and out by 11:00. Batta Bing Batta Boom.

Find a good Dr. that does alot of this surgery and his office can instruct you on insurance and other pay plans. Its not like buying a truck, its alot less painful! Good Luck!

Hi Byron. Lots of luck to you on this journey. Just remember that it's a HUGE decision, so your going to go through many ups and downs and a thousand different emotions. That's all OK. We've all been through it or are going through it. You're taking a great stride toward getting your health back.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
