Two weeks today post op! Feeling so much better! liquids for another week. Just wondering for the future, if I was a sweet craver before surgery, will that change? I hope so because I ate way too much sugar and that was a lot of my problem! So far sweets don't sound appealing at all!

I too had a sweet tooth, I loved to bake. I don't bake too much anymore because if it were to be in my house I would crave it! Grocery shopping is a chore too and sometimes I wish I could just buy something sweet. I am 12 weeks post op and have not had one bite of anything sweet, not because I didn't want it but because I know if I am going to succeed I cannot have it!

I was a major sweet addict before surgery! Now I can have a few bites any more than that and I feel sick! I am so thankful for this because I never was a huge eater I just ate way to many sweets exspecially chocolate And ice cream! I am 3 months out had the sleeve on August 19, 2014! Everyone is different some can still eat it! I'm thankful I can't!

Well, I don't know how to tell you this guys, but I really never had a sweet tooth, however, now almost 7 months post-op I crave sweets ALL the time. :( Not sure if it's that I didn't have any sweets at all for about 5 months but I crave sweets and chocolate all the time now, I try not to have it but every night at around 8pm I crave and crave, so usually I just take a teaspoonful of Peanut Butter. Good Luck.

My cravings for sweets when away the week after surgery. I rarely feel the need to eat sweets. But I do get a craving for bananas and apples, but only if I walk by and see them. It seems as long as I don't see the temptation, I don't get a craving. I can only remember walking by a bowl of bananas at my mon's house (about 4 months post-op) and suddenly had a craving flung on me. I HAD TO HAVE A BANANA! Up until that, I hadn't even thought about bananas. So I don't keep any temptations in the house.

When I'm feeling tired and weak, (and sometimes after a high protein/low carb meal) my brain starts coaxing me to eat carbs - because it knows I get a temporary energy boost from sugar. But I can satisfy that feeling with good carbs, like Beans, lentils, squash. You might carefully examine that craving next time it happens - note your energy level or mood and try to figure out if you're really craving a certain flavor or just carbs in general.

I'm allowed to have a 1/2 banana if I want. What's wrong with that?

I had to be physically broken of my sugar addiction. I was CRABBY for a good week. I still want sweets, but that is in my head. And for the most part I can satiate it with yogurt or fruit or a lighter version of something I used to eat. But every once in awhile, the old me comes out and demands I eat chocolate. So I have a little chocolate. But only a little. Not all the chocolates evar. LOL.

Some people dump from sweets. I do not. The game is always mental with me. Ultimately it is up to me at almost 7 months out to say no to the sugary stuff.

I'm mostly okay. The first few weeks I didn't crave sweets because all those Protein drink are kinda on the sweet side. That's when I started getting creative with Soup. I needed something savory.

Now my sweet tooth is mostly satisfied with fruit. I had one mini Reese's Peanut Butter cup a few weeks ago and that satisfied me. I've been down this road before though. When I am eating correctly my craving for sweets decreases and I can exercise restraint. The minute I go off the correct path I end up overdoing it. Since my tummy no longer has the real estate for overdoing it, I'm hoping to stay on the right course.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
