Ohhh no sorry you are having discomfort! I had a similar issue! It turned out to be gall stones. I had my gall bladder removed 2 days later! I would call Dr.'s office & see what they advise! I had immediate relief post gall bladder removal surg. Best of luck to you...

This is normal. You have just removed ~85% of your stomach and the remaining portion is healing. This is why it's important to eat/drinking slowly. It goes away.

I am experiencing the exact same thing! I am 6 days post op and my throat was scratchy and felt like I have a lump in it. Today it is much more sore and painful to swallow. I have a call into my doc about it. I suspect it is a side effect from the intubation during surgery. sugar free Popsicles are my lifesaver right now!

I am about six weeks out and I still have it if I don't take an acid reducer. I hear it gets much better in time

Just to clarify mine is not exactly painful. I guess the best way to describe is I used to feel the muscles working as I swallow and if I swallowed to much or too fast it was uncomfortable. As long as I sipped & swallowed slowly I was fine and eventually it went away as I healed.

I had a hernia repaired and now have scar tissue forming. The scar tissue along with the swelling is not allowing hardly any liquid to pass. The doctor wants me to wait until the swelling goes down (another 3 weeks of liquids!) to see how much I will be able to get down. If still not enough they will have o use a scope with a balloon to open it up some. It's a minor set back but nothing I can't deal with.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
