Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just trying to get caught up before things get out of control again. Bummer about the knee, Phyl. I'm glad you aren't a lot of pain, but ya sure don't want things to get any worse. Take it easy. Did he happen to mention what kinds of exercising would be "safe?" or did he offer to write up a PT consult?

Wish I could chime in more on what's going on with everyone. Got to run now (again). DH's bringing some friends in. . .

I should've asked about PT... didn't think of it.

He did encourage me to get to a pool and do some Water exercise. We need to do that. I can do 40-50 minutes of Wii, but that probably isn't great for my knees.

DH said he thinks I'm having a mid life crisis. Can you believe that? I'm not even close enough to middle to have a mid life crisis. How RUDE!!! However, I LOVE the idea of tassles and a bell. A basket would be nice too. Good luck finding it. I'll keep my eyes peeled for you and if I see one I'll let you know.

Steph I agree you are to young for a mid life crisis

Hi,

Well, the total knee specialist is about 10 years old, but seems very knowledgeable. He did throw me a curve. He showed me my x-rays and said the hardware in the right knee is coming loose because of the weight loss and so it is more urgent than the right. He said, even with the pain, the left one is more or less elective at this point but the right one is NOT because if it continues to get looser I could do serious damage. He says he only wants to do each one ONCE… wants this to last a lifetime for me, so he wants me to wait until I lose another 40 lb or BMI of 40. But, he’s concerned about the right one and wants to x-ray it again in two months. He says if it’s gotten worse, than he might have to go ahead and do it anyway. At the rate that I am losing, it looks like this won’t be happening until about a year from now because we head south again in Oct. It’s a little frustrating because I was hoping to be able to do a lot more walking sooner than that.

So… that’s my knee story for today! I go back July 7th to see him again and x-ray again.

ther than that, an uneventful day.

Makes sense - and you know you could delay your trip down here by a month or so?

Linda - good to hear from you..

Oh Phyl, your "smilie" looks like he is PB'ing and then falling down from weakness....

I had another long drive to Toronto today for a fill. WHen I got there the Nurse said OH, I'll give you 1 cc....:confused2: OMG no not that much!! She gave me 0.5cc last time so I wouldn't agree to any more than that again... and I am TIGHT... I can get down Water, but VERY slowly.

I had a bowl 3/4 cup of Soup tonight and then some popsycles... I was having a yen for Pistachios so I counted 47 out, only ate 1/4 of them and PB'd.... dah!!! After all it is supposed to be ONLY liquids today...

But I just wanted something salty... it was good :frown: that it didn't work.

I am down another lb. pretty soon I'll be able to update my ticker at the bottom!!!!:Banane44:

Candice - I just don't know about you - if you wanted salt then you should have just added some to your soup :tt2: Nuts - you are nuts:lol:

Why is it that it's so hard for us to follow rules sometimes - I will be craving soup before a fill then afterwards i will be craving the steak - our brains make no sense

Sheesh I don't sign in for a couple of days and I miss everything!!!

I think she was someone who posted here not realizing this is the 2007 thread not 2008 thread - being the nice people we are we said Hi - she hasn't been back - must have realized she was in the wrong thread.

The treadmill I use at the gym is a Lifestyle brand but I'm not really sure what model it is. When I jump on it in the morning I'll try to remember to make note of it. It's good. I like that you can vary the speed and incline and there are a couple of extra options like being able to do a fitness test (although I've never used that) and other things. I usually just program in my weight and time, then adjust the speed and incline to what I want. I must say it's become my favorite piece of gym equipment. Probably because I can see the results of my work on it. When we buy our own home and set up a gym, the first thing I'll buy is a treadmill.

I did a quick search and came up with this link:

Treadmills: Treadmill Reviews, Best Treadmills

It gives reviews on the best treadmills out there. When you go to buy one, ask if there's a trial period in case you don't like something about the one you choose and have the option to send it back or replace it with a different model/brand.

Ruby that's a great link - at one time I was thinking about getting one but for me i think it would start collecting dust too fast - I

8 more days...11 more days... I HAVE 5 WEEKS LEFT!

I just wanted to chime in with that because I am thouroughly exhausted and I will write more tomorrow!

Karri our schools arent out til mid June too - just think their schools start in August where ours don't til after labor day..

Rest....

Ok - Still have the kids - my head hurts - and I need to go eat - so will talk to you all tomorrow

Sweet Dreams

Phyl-sorry to hear about the knee whoas. At least you know where you stand with it (no pun intended). Isn't it crazy to think that weight loss is actually 'hurting' you knee more? Who would have thought?

Peaches- Are your fills done under fluro? I don't blame you for holding your ground on the .5. I would be afraid for them to add to quickly as well. The last 3 fills for me have been .2.

Janet- how long before the kids get the hot Water fixed? I am keeping my fingers and toes and everything else (36_1_12.gif) crossed for your weigh in tomorrow.

Kari- 5 more weeks? Wow! We get out May 27th and go back August 23 or 24? Sometime around there. We always go back for 1-2 days before labor day weekend.

Ok so I got up this morning and told you all how sore I was. Well I pushed and made myself do the same workout today. Ya know the running came a bit easier today and after 1/2 mile of walking and then running for a bit I was fine. I am getting stffer by the hour now though and it is midnight so I imagine tomorrow morning will be prety rough. The scale is weighing me 2 lbs lighter than yesterday and today I weighed about 45 minutes ago so it is late and I weighed with all of my clothes on and yesterday it was in the morning and I wa nude. I hope that means that the damn thing is moving now. For as hard as I am working myself I hope it will start paying off.

Well as I said it is midnight (a bit after now) and I better get. Hope you all have sweet dreams and I will chat tomorrow. NIGHTY NIGHT my LUCKY #7's 23_9_11.gif

Turns out I'm a liar. :Banane44: The treadmill I use is a Startrac brand. It's the elliptical that's a Lifestyle. :frown: No wonder I couldn't find my particular model on the Lifestyle website. This is the one I use each morning: P Series Treadmills : Star Trac

It has a fan on it but I rarely use it because it stops me from sweating, and I think working up a sweat is a big part of losing weight. But there have been occasions when the a/c has gone on the blink in the gym, so I'll switch them on. It really has become my favorite companion (apart from all of you) on my weight loss program. Oh, as has my iPod. I'm hopeless without it. :tt2:

Okay....maybe not go that far. I am oh so excited for you! I'd do a dance for you but my students wouldn't understand.

Phyl - I love that you have added your Wii fitness age to your signature. You are the coolest gramma I know!

So this has been a wonderful day at school! Long...but good. This is the kind of day that makes all the HELL worth it. I went to a FANTASTIC conferences yesterday and I used one of the techniques that he used and it worked miracles. I can't even tell you how it changed the whole climate of my classroom. It is too long to explain, but believe me, it is fun!

So I might need a favor from all of you. Hopefully I won't need it, but I have to make sure that I don't pansy out tonight. My training calls for a 4 mile run tonight followed by a 6 mile walk. I have to get the legs conditioned to doing 13 miles at one time. So here it is...If I don't come home from the gym and post that I completed that task you all had better give me crap. You can publicly post it or you can fill my private message box to the wazooo. I know "how can I give crap to someone that runs 4 miles and then walks anything." WELL...I HAVE TO DO THIS. I am confident in my PHYSICAL ability to acheive this, but I am worried about the mental part. I am going to be on the same treadmill for about 2 hours tonight, and I have cardio ADD. While I do have faith in myself, the more people that I am accountable to the better.

Well I need to finish grading the quizzes. I should post by 6:30PM PST so if you haven't heard from me by then...you should all start yelling at me!

Hey Everybody, what's all this hoopla about? Did someone lose weight or something?????

You girls are acting like someone did something unbelievably extraordinary, like maybe losing over 90lbs in 9mts. Surely that couldn't have happened. It's absurd. Who could transform their body in 9mts?

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

Good Luck this procedure is well worth it I am down to 249.6 lb please continue with the process..

      2. Selina333

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
