Marcy,

I'm glad my husband doesn't read this forum, or he'd be bugging me nonstop to realize that all I need is sex, too! I'm sorry you're having a bad one, though. Now I feel guilty for getting annoyed that I live a half hour away from any freeway!!

This is all in addition to the trouble I have walking down stairs lately. I have to hold on tight to the railing and my right knee hurts intensly. I know this is weight related, too.

This is happened to me as well ronik. I've just had my first visit to an orthopedic specialist. I told him that I believed my weight was a big factor, he agreed. After looking at the results of my MRI, it showed I have a meniscus tear - the soft padding between the bone that allows it to rotate smoothly. For now we're trying drug therapy (Celebrex) to ease the swelling in that knee. We both agree that losing weight will go a long way to easing the discomfort, but surgery may still be an option to clean out some of the torn stuff. Do you also have an audible crunching sound in your knee when you bend it? Does it give way at times? Is it painful? These are the other symptoms I have as well.

It's difficult to get out and walk when you depend so much on healthy limbs carrying you. I've been seriously thinking of taking up Aquarobics so there's no weight at all on it. Bike riding? Not quite yet, I'll wait till I lose some of the extra weight around the middle so my thighs aren't hitting my stomach when I pedal. :)

Ok, so I've been spending the morning thinking about goals. Frankly, I LOATHE the word goal...it brings back memories of 6th grade when we had to write down our goals and I'd write something down and some authority figure would tell me either my goals weren't really goals or that I had already accomplished them...

So, I'll try anyway...

Lots of folks want that regular size towel to go around them with no gap...I want to be able to TAKE IT OFF and fell good about what's underneath.:biggrin1:

I want to look at a picture of myself and not think that I look WAY HUGER than when I look in the mirror. :rolleyes

I want my kids to be able to hug MOST of me, not just a roll of fat.:nervous

I want to be the "prize" my husband deserves.:kiss2:

I LOVE your goals. And you are so right about wanting to feel good about the nakedness underneath!!! :) I definitely got a smile outta that one. And your last one is soooo sweet. The prize your husband deserves. I just think that is so great. (But I'm sure he loves you 110% just the way you are.) I don't have a hubby, yet, but I believe that by me taking care of myself as a result of this surgery... things may change in the relationship dept. :)

Hello everyone.

Welcome to all the new Lucky 7 members. We're going to do great with all this support we have here. Congrats on getting the date.

Chimboree, I love the Bracelet. I'm thinking I need one. I'm going to go to the website later.

On the goal note, here are mine

1. Now about the whole 'nakedness thing", ok, I'd love to be intimate during the day and feel great about what my DH is seeing. This night time only in the pitch dark thing has got to go!!

2. I'd love to be able to tie my shoes without the help of a chair, couch, etc.

3. I'd love to shop in the Juniors department, even if I am 35 because I never got to at 17 years old.

4. This is funny, but y'all remember that Dr. Pepper commercial with the lady in the minivan and she opens up the sliding door and there's a cooler of Dr. Pepper. Anyway. all the boys come running towards the minivan as you hear that song 'Stacy's mom has got it going on" playing and the mom stands there smiling and shaking her head. Yeah, "HUNTER"S MOM will have it going on" because I don't want to be a fat mom to my son.

5. Last, for now, but I know there's got to be more but I'm out of time, I'm still treating myself to that tattoo acrossed my back. I'm thinking about a 4 leaf clover with the number 7 inside it. I have to draw up the art work for it, but I think it will be cool. LUCKY 7 FOREVER!!!

I like the tattoo on the back with 7 in it, very meaningful.

OK -- I have been shopping, fun stuff.

liquid tylenol, gas X (couldn't find liquid, found chewable though), liquid vitamins-- just sounds gross.

chicken broth and Soup, gonna have to do this in phases as I don't care to check out with 40 of each in my cart! Water bottles w/ the freezable inside. Bought 4 so I know what I have to drink each day and I can keep track of it better. Water has always been a down fall for me.

dated my calendar with mark down days until surgery, now just need to get in the mind set for the preop diet. I think the hardest thing for me to give up is going to be my diet coke.

Chimboree, thanks for the calendar and 'upkeep' of the thread. Lyssarene, you are waaay ahead of me, I haven't bought anything yet. I did go to the psychologist today, and was there for 2 1/2 hours. They had 2 guys interviewing me, who gave me 3 different tests to take. Man, I thought I was not going to survive it. They asked about every single last detail of my life, and will have a report ready next week. I hope I passed! How was you'all interview with the shrink?

Not that far ahead :nervous

I was at the store and had already started a list on the things I had read online etc. took advantage to pick them up.

Oh also got ice cube trays! I read somewhere that is the right amount (medicine cup size) of liquids and you can premake your Soup, freeze it, place it in ziplocs then heat it up as needed. Great idea!

Have not found sugar free popcicles yet though....:cry

What is everyone drinking on preop for Protein Shakes and Soups?

LyssaRene, fortunately, I don't have a pre-op diet :whoo:...but I'm thinking I'm going to do one anyway. I am still trying to find out what Protein shakes I like. I did go to www.bariatriceating.com to get some samples. I've found one so far that I like. I did get one from Wal-Mart that I found disgusting! I have to get back to you w/the names. They're at home and I'm at work.

Welcome Kathybad and congrats! Yes, I know I'm starting to get a few butterflies every now and then and my date isn't until 7/25!!! I can only imagine how the others (who are up next week )are feeling. :o

No problem Cazulay. I enjoy helping out. My psychiatrist interview was very painless. She's my regular psychiatrist, so she just asked me questions about my past and then we spent a lot of time talking about the surgery itself...you know, what changes it will entail, how that will affect me, any addiction transfer, etc. It was a good session. :biggrin1:

Greetings Everyone:

Thanks for the Welcome to the Lucky 7's club and to Chimboree for being the keeper of the calendar and adding me to it. (I printed it out)

I haven't bought anything yet. I have a small group meeting next Thursday evening with the Psych, and Dietitian. They will tell us what they want us to get in the way of Vitamins and the rest.

I've never had a Protein Shake. I know when I attended the seminar at the hospital, they said that at St. Raphael's in New Haven, they use "Carnation," as in Instant Breakfast - I wonder?

I'm 53 and just got off the phone with my 78 year old dad who for the most part is sharp as a tack and still works part time. Anyway, of course I had to get the, "What the hell do you have to have surgery to lose weight for? You know what to do - you just walk away from the table." Know all that. "This is just a money making scheme for the Dr's.," he said when I told him the surgeon said I was a good candidate. "Of course he said that, they're in it for the money."

I told him I loved and respected him and his opinion, which he had every right to be entitiled to - though I didn't agree. The only other thing I said basically was, my surgeons a female and I phoned her for an appt. she didn't solicit me. I love my dad to death, but he has his beliefs and one is that psychologists and psychology are/is not a real science but rather "is for the birds."

It's rather amusing that my brother's PhD. is in Psychology, and it was my minor. Okay....moving along....

Thanks for listening.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
