3 weeks post- op. No weight loss in 6 days?

Recommended Posts

I have lost 20 pounds exactly since the morning of surgery, but haven't lost any in the last 6 days. I am on day 22 post-op. Should I worry, or is this the same as losing before surgery, sometimes it stalls? But this early on?

I make sure I write everything down. I get between 60-70 g Proteins daily. Never go over 20 carbs. My calories are always under 500. I get the 64 -80 oz liquid.I walk at least an hour per day. Can't use weights yet, due to 2 hernias repaired during surgery. I am not sure if it's worrying about not losing that's causing me not to lose, or if this has happened to anyone else. I lost 55 lbs on my own, before I ever even contacted a dr, so working out & counting things aren't knew to me. I am terrfied that I will continue not losing and my dr will refuse to believe that I am following their criteria at my appt on 12/4.

Stalling at three weeks out is completely normal. It happens to everyone. Use the search function here and look for "3 week stall" or "third week stall" or "dreaded three week stall" and you'll see what I mean.

Keep following the program your doctor gave you and stay off the scale for a while - that will help you stress less about it, because there really isn't anything you can do other than wait it out. Good luck!

I wish surgeons would tell patients about stalls. Mine certainly didn't and still didn't refer to stalls when I was in tears during my three month visit, after I told her I had not lost an ounce in 21 days. Of course I had read adout stalls on BP, but still wanted her input. Not a word about it from her.

Thank you! Thank you! I have always had big stalls pervious to surgery.. can lose 8 lbs in a week, nothing for 2 weeks, then 7 lbs the next week. Didn't know it could happen this early on after surgery. I have seen my surgeon a total of less than 15 min ever, 2 office appts and the day of surgery. So I don't get much info from him. I have the book they gave me.. and you guys :) I don't get to read on here as much as I would like.. I work over 40 hours week and have already returned. So I snuck in here for some guidance :) Thank you for brightening my day, I was panicking !

Your stall is completely normal. It's just your body adjusting to the weight loss and reduced calories. I found that if I kept to my diet and calorie limits, the weight would start dropping again. I've gone through several stalls during the 1st year and each time I was worried if it was the end of my weight loss. But it wasn't, it was just a temporary "time-out" while my body adjusted to it's new way of living.

I am 5 weeks post op today...........I skipped the 3 week stall, but I'm having it now. I've lost 30 lbs so far but the scale hasn't moved in 4 days. I'm ok with that since I read about the dreaded 3 week stall.......I guess I'm just slow. =)

I'm not able to get in 60 g of Protein yet. All Protein shakes make me gag. I am great with my Fluid intake though. I'm good with taking all my Vitamins. I'm working on getting the Protein in. I feel like all I do all day is eat because I can only get in a couple bites before I feel full. This is definitely a process. =) You're doing AWESOME!!!

I use the New Whey Liquid Protein dietary supplement. I mix it in my drinks. Its 42 grams of Protein daily & was approved by the nutritionist. Then I get the rest from a Protein Drink, egg, or yogurt. I couldnt get the Protein Drinks down until I was allowed to use milk and I use the carbmasters milk from Kroger. It's not bad at all. Now that I am back to work I find that it is much easier than sitting at home all day thinking of the things I can't have or can't do lol

Congratulations! You have reached The Dreaded Week-3 Stall. It's perfectly normal, and just about all of us have suffered through it. You're not crazy, and your doctor didn't screw up. In fact, you might not lose any weight for two weeks or even longer. But don't worry – after that, the weight will start falling off if you stick to your program. And, the inches continue to come off even while the scale isn't budging. If you're interested, here's a good article that explains why it happens and why we all have to go through it. Hang in there. Pretty soon it'll be in the rear-view mirror and you'll be dropping weight again like crazy!

(Apologies to BP regulars who have seen this repeatedly, but it's a big deal to those who are going through it!)

I am nearing the end of my third week. I didn't lose anything from end of week 2 until just this past friday and even then it was only 3 lbs. I'm chalking it up to that I'm really backed up (TMI sorry) and at the 2 week mark is when I started to eat more foods. I'm hoping for better results in the coming weeks.

I've had two stalls since surgery. Thirst at 3 weeks (as most other people experience) and that stall lasted a month. My second stall was a few weeks back and lasted about two weeks.

As long as my weight trajectory is DOWN, then I don't mind a few stalls!

Don't be discouraged, hang in there, and your body will do what you want!

I'm almost 3weeks out and right after surgery I gained 4 pounds. Then I lost 10 and back up 5. I'm stuck there. I'm trying to get the Protein and fluids in but I just can't hold it all. Anybody else gaining like this after surgery?

And here I was self-flagellating because I thought I must be either eating too much or too little or just generally have a body that doesn't want to lose weight. I'd never heard of the three week stall, but I'm in the midst of it. I'm 4wks post op tomorrow and I've fluctuated between losing and gaining a kilo in the last fortnight.

That said, I do notice tiny changes in my body ie my sports crop top that was once nearly cutting me in two is now comfortable bordering on being too loose.

I'm glad I kept scrolling through this and thank you to the original poster for posting this!!! I just hope my body gets a grip on itself and starts to pull the finger out. I've ramped up my cardio and plan to start weights this weekend (baby weights, not Arnie weights!!!).

You all have given me hope that I'm not going to stay this weight. Yay!

Cheers

RozzieJ

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
