I think the office has been great too. Dr. Ricks took out my gallbladder about 2 mos after VSG & that went well too. Everyone has been friendly & helpful.

I have not been to a meeting yet, though I've wanted to. Thursdays are usually busy here & it's rough to make the 6:30 meeting from North County after work. You? Maybe we can meet there one day :)

Things have been going well and overall a lot less problems than I thought I would have. My tummy was always kind of sensitive so I was worried, but I've been pleasantly surprised at not being sick more :D

I would love to attend a support group meeting. I think I might try to go to the next one in November.

When I initially met with my doctor I was given a binder that talked about the surgery, the process all the testing needed pre-op, recomendations for Protein post-op as well as soft foods for reintroducing food back in. I listed week to week what I should be eating at what stage.. They pages of different Proteins to try, a separate page of what Vitamins I needed post op. This binder became my bible of sorts. I used it to refer back to what pre-op testing I needed to have and to make sure I am eating the right things at the right time.

As far as the preop diet was concerned, they recommended reducing your calories. The first week I just cut back. I tried to increase my Protein intake and Water intake. I think I tried to stay under 1000 calories a day. The second week, I dropped that to 800 calories a day. I basically did Protein shakes and yogurt with one meal a day. The surgeon said it was good to try and reduce because there have been the rare occasion where surgery couldn't be preformed because the patient's liver was too fatty. Of course the day before surgery you are NPO to Clear liquids only after 9pm. I had my surgery performed laparoscopically. I don't know if it makes a difference if you are having surgery another way.

As for the psych appointment from what I saw that want to know f you are mentally prepared to do this. Can you put in the work involved in committing yourself to changing your eating habits. Are you willing to add exercise into your lifestyle and what kind of support you have. They want to make sure you don't think this surgery is some sort of magic wand that will take the fat away and understand the work involved in living a healthier lifestyle.

I feel so much better reading this thread! I have to do a 1200 calorie diet 2 weeks before, and then total liquids the two days before surgery. I have surgery 2 weeks from today. But about a month ago I started working with a program that had me drinking about 80 ounces of Water a day and lots of shakes. I do about 1000 calories a day to prep for surgery and I'm down about 21 pounds now. I was reading about all of these people doing the 2 weeks of liquid diet and I started to get freaked out that my dr. wasn't doing it right! LOL

@@BLERDgirl thanks for the info! Seems like different doctors have diffent requirements. My Dr was telling me that he no longer requires the 2 week pre-op diet because the size of the liver doesn't change significantly during that short period of time.

@@Karess Haivala I'm glad you found this to be resourceful! I'm glad I posted the questions also! I'm new on here but everyone's been so helpful! I'm really glad I found this site!

Interesting how some folks have to some folks don't. I do. I did a blog post the evening of my psych eval and listed all the questions I could remember...check out my blog here on this site for the details...it really wasn't that bad... Good luck!

Just had psych testing today. Super simple and really just basically a conversation. Definitely nothing to stress over. Just basic questions to see if you understand fully what you're going to do and how to live life successfully. Anybody on this site is researching and learning definetlty will be fine!

Anyone here have surgery already without the two week pre-op diet? I'm wondering if the results, so far, are similar for people who did vs. didn't diet.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
