Black bypass patients and high blood pressure

Recommended Posts

I scoured the threads and forms and all I could was a couple of AA VSGer threads.....So, question: Did the RNY resolve your high blood pressure? Completely? Was it the change in diet, less sodium? I've seen the research on the general population on the resolution of hypertension but never broken down by race. So, I'll take the anecdotal evidence gladly because of its predisposition factor with us.

When I went into the surgery I was on four blood pressure medicines and insulin for diabetes.

I am 7 weeks out my primary doctor has dropped the insulin and my carthologist just took me off 2 of my blood pressure medicine.

here is a summary from one study: Of 1,025 patients treated, 15% had type 2 diabetes mellitus and 51% had hypertension. Of those with diabetes, 75% also had hypertension.. African-American patients had a higher risk of hypertension than whites before GBP and were less likely to correct their hypertension after GBP. There was significant resolution of other obesity comorbidity problems. See, Diabetes and Hypertension in Severe Obesity and Effects of Gastric Bypass-Induced Weight Loss

The issue for African Americans is more complicated the hypertension is not just obesity related but chronic stress of racism - see my book - Dying While Black

Thank you for taking the time to respond to me, MsUjima. As of now, I only have hypertension and I know the longer I remain overweight the greater the chance I have of developing diabetes or other comorbities, but I'm really hoping this would resolve the hypertension, but right now that feels like a cramp shoot. Although, when I've lost weight previously my blood pressure did go down considerably. I don't know. I was younger then. Good stuff for me to think about.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
