Hello -

I was banded on April 30th. My health history (while relatively good) includes a 25 year battle with gout. My first "attack" was at age 18.

When discussing banding with my Dr, he almost promised me a post surgery attack. His promise came through 5 days after surgery. Due to banding, the Dr really discouraged the use of any ibuprofen and strongly discouraged any of the indocin products. Well, I had already flushed my indocin when the gout attack reared its ugly head. I tried liquid ibuprofen and then tried cutting ibuprofen capsules. It was a mess for a few days.

This leads to a couple of questions: 1. How many of you deal with gout as a complication to banding? and 2. Any good ideas as to how to treat an attack when it occurs?

Journey On!!! :)

I'm also highly prone to gout. Is this complication only right after the surgery or is it a long-term problem??

thanks

DITTO on the gout history. I am thinking the twinges in my knee (10 days post op) might be gout. I have always kept my emergency supply of little green wonders (indocin) around just in case. Geez now what?

I am wondering if liquifying the powder inside the capsule will dilute it enough to slide into the main stomach so the pouch won't be damaged? Question for the Dr I am guessing.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
