1 week Post Op.....looking for advice, tips....

Recommended Posts

So Monday 11/3 I was one week post op from my surgery on 10/27. I came home Tuesday around dinnertime from the hospital and found that I did not need to take any of my pain meds at all. I was so surprised since I am a giant baby when it come to being in pain or uncomfortable. My first couple days home I was only getting in half of what my doc wanted me to and I was starting to get nervous. But come Friday I was able to almost reach my goals of 60g of Protein and 64oz of Water. I had a rough day on Saturday due to some Protein not agreeing with my tummy at all, took a few naps but still managed to get in my three 20 minute walks so I still call it a good day!

Now here is where I am looking for any advice or tips people further out than me can offer. Both Sunday and Monday I was able to get all my protein in (and a teeny bit more) all my Water in and all my walking, I have been able to drink an 11oz RTD Premeire Protein shake cut with 4oz of 1% milk in about an hour sipping sipping sipping. Then I wait 30-40mins and start sipping on my water glass. Then I eat a shake again usually a scoop of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chocolate, with 2tbsp PB2, 8 oz of milk and a few ice cubes. Again I can get it all down in about an hour. Then back to my water. Then I have broth with either my GENEPRO unflavored protein in it or the Unjury chicken Soup protein in it, I am straining the light low sodium Soups, (French onion has the best flavor) at dinner time. It usually ends up being about 8oz of liquid between the broth and the water I add. Once again it takes me about 45mis to an hour to get the broth down.

This is NOT what I was expecting?? I thought I would only be able to get down a couple ounces at a time and was so worried about getting in my protein and water. Is this fairly usual for being a week out?? My doc has me on full liquids till the 9th, and and then onto the next stage. Now I am not really feeling hunger, but I am getting a full feeling when I am done. I am trying to get in a Breakfast, lunch and dinner. I have sat down with my family both nights while they ate dinner and had my broth. It didn't bother me to do that, it was nice to eat together, and with me taking longer our conversation was longer too. Instead of eating in 15mins jumping up and cleaning up, it was nice.

Sorry this is so long but I guess I feel like I am doing everything correctly I don't want to miss anything. I am really looking forward to trying some real chewable food on the 9th, but I don't want to rush anything. I want my tummy to heal. I am down 13lbs in one week and 22.5 since my pre op the week before. I feel pretty good and am going to venture out again in the next couple days. I did go grocery shopping with my hubby on sunday and did pretty good. He says I am doing way better than I think I am. :)

@proudgrammy I so hope it didn't sound like complaining!!

I woke up more in awe than anything. My experience is just so different than I expected, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. :) I keep talking to my husband about things and he keeps telling me to just keep doing what I am doing and it will all work out!!

I am really getting a little excited that I can and will be successful! :)

As you start puree and mushies then solids you will fill up more but that's so great that you can get in all you need. I'm still struggling with Protein and fluids. Now that I can have cottage cheese, egg and chicken salad it is easier but just getting to 60 grams is hard and I'm to aim for 80.... you are doing great!

Sounds like you are enjoying a textbook recovery. Just brace yourself for that third week stall. It is normal, too.

I totally understand what you're going thru! I am a week post op today, except I started puree yesterday, I guess all docs are diff. I have had no problems with anything, except a whey Protein Shake that didn't agree. I almost feel like I'm eating too much, idk...it just isn't what I expected either, and I almost feel like I didn't have surgery at all. It's making me nervous :-/ I have my follow up tomorrow, so I will Def be mentioning this to them! I know everyone is different, but I feel like the oddball out lol

@gaudjosl.......I received a call from the patient coordinator from the hospital following up on my progress and that is exactly what she told me too. :)

@@Miss Mac......I have read a ton on here about stalls, they don't sound very fun but I am hoping to work thru them when I reach them.

@Luna222.......I'm so glad to hear you are doing well with your recovery too. I guess after being on these threads for so long before surgery I was expecting so much more to go wrong. I feel so bad for some on here especially when I am doing so well. Good Luck with your follow up apt!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
