Hi everyone I'm a newbie , I live in brisbane, Australia

I have a few questions befor I have my first appointment .

I'm booked for my first appointment on December 8th.

Did you have to wait long between first appointment to surgery ?

I know in USA they have to have , sleep study's , psychiatrist Appointments befor they have surgery , in Australia have to do the same ??

I rang up and found out I am covered by my medibank private, so that's great , one thing ticked .

In the U.S., depending on the insurance company requirements, it can be months before surgery is approved. I was lucky in that my insurance is bariatric friendly. In less than 1 month, I had my 1st appointment, was sleeved and released from the hospital.

But I went to great lengths to get all my pre-op testing done quickly. In 2 weeks, I'd had all the blood work, xrays, EDG, and psych eval completed. On top of that, I had a co-morbidity (sleep apnea) and I had done a doctor supervised diet years earlier that met my insurance pre-qualifications.

I'm in Brisbane too! I had to wait two weeks for an appointment with my surgeon. Saw him on November 5th. He didn't need a psych eval at all but did want a gastroscopy. He scheduled my surgery for December 2nd. I had bloods done straight after the appointment and booked the gastroscopy. Went to see the dietitian the next day and got my shakes for the 10 day pre op diet. I have the gastrscopy on Thursday (13th of November) and start my pre op diet on the 22nd. Lastly I have the pre op clinic on the 26th of November at the hospital. As you can see, it can all happen pretty fast!!! Good Luck :D

You should qualify. I'm 85KG and 167cm tall. The pre op clinic is at the hospital (Allamanda on the Gold Coast) and is just a quick check up and they give you all the info you need for your hospital stay.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
