Weird feeling in throat after drinking liquids.

Recommended Posts

Okay, maybe I'm paranoid. Last night I got stuck while eating some chicken and broccoli casserole. I did have PB with it. After that I ate and drank fine. At about 3:30 this morning I woke up thirsty and took a drink of Water. Upon swallowing I noticed that ten seconds or so after swallowing I got a pain in the back of my throat. NOT a stuck feeling. The feeling you get when you swallow a pill too hard, right in the back of my throat. This pain continued for the rest of morning everytime I would take a drink. I have not had solid food this morning (in fear of agitating something). I'm going to do liquids for the rest of the day. It is about 10:30 am now and the pain seems to be getting less. I drank a coffee, a Protein shake, and am now drinking Water.< /p>

Any advice? Has anyone else had this problem before? I have never had this issue in the year I I've had my band. I had a fill at the end of the September (so not recently).

Sounds to me like you're doing the right thing with all liquids -- maybe last night's stuck episode requires some time to heal up? Best wishes!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
