Banded at Northwest Weight Loss (Everett)

Recommended Posts

Hi Group! Yesterday afternoon I had some Soup and I have had a side ache ever since. ( maybe I ate it too fast, I did not get enough Protein yesterday) I thought it would be gone by this morning, but its not. Anyone ever felt this? Could it be gas? I never really suffered from gas pains.

Shellmar -- glad to hear you are doing well. I was concerned when I didn't see any posts from you after your surgery.

PineNut-- I love grapes from Costco! I am starting to go crazy on this liquid diet and can't wait until I can have some real food again.

Caolin - thanks for the welcome. Any luck scheduling your sleep test? You will be in bandland with the rest of us very soon!

Carebears - it seems, after reading a lot of varying posts, that everyone has different things happen to them.....but I have not heard of a stomache after eating Soup. Please, keep us informed on how you are doing!:)

Once again, I'm reaching out to someone to give me the info for the Silverdale support group, please PM me! I would really appreciate it.

PineNut.... as I understand it...Dr. Michaelson said there could be 3-4cc at the time of surgery... I guess they prime it with saline and then when they cut the tube that runs to the port to the right length for YOUR body.... the pressure depending on how much fat you have on that the land is around can force some of it out... leaving 3-4cc. I don't know if all lapband surgeries are done that way...or just NWWLS?? I hope I explained that right....if someone knows otherwise, please correct me!:nervous

I'm 5-6"....

My sister's name is Jamie... but she does not post on any boards.... she is a little more private... I'm hoping to change that :) She is 5-5" and we were started 1/2 pound apart... she was a 1/2 inch shorter and I was a 1/2 pound more then her... LOL

Carebears - actually I just got bad news about my surgery, it seems now Dr. Watkins won't do the surgery without a sleep test and so I've been rescheduled to July 31st......to say the least, I am bummed.

I'm now taking a more proactive role in making sure this sleep test gets done ASAP, just incase there are any cancellations and I can move up my date. Sheesh......my PCP's office just let my request for referral sit there as neither sleep disorder place in my area had none of the paperwork on their desk.....marching onward!!

Thanks for asking....and I am looking forward to being one of the banded, believe me!

wadew1976 - thanks for the words of encouragement! I know he's being cautious and that is how I would want them to be, I suppose it's just a let down because I was spending so much time getting "mentally" prepared for surgery, you know?

But as you say, life goes on and it will happen, eventually!!

Yes i so understand. I was sick of thinking about it and preparing for it mentally. I was lucky i got in 2 weeks after my first appt so that was good. But after is another set of worries and mental issues depression etc at first so it seems neverending! ITs hard enough having surgery and then u cant eat anything for 2 weeks after just liquids so your body has so much to adjust to. The 2 weeks has seemed like 4 months to me! I thought oh 2 weeks is nothing but it is when you are wanting that burger and fries or anything solid. I never knew Soup could taste so good after being creative with it. This isnt easy but the benefits outweigh the bad parts of it. So hang in there!

Caolin - I am sorry to hear that your surgery was delayed. It is hard to get mentally prepared. There was 6 weeks between my first appointment and my surgery date. Believe it or not, the time will fly by and you will have much more peace of mind the morning of the surgery.

wadew1976 & Carebears - Thank you so much for being full of encouragement. It seems not all is lost, I got a consult. with Dr. Russian at the Western Washington Medical Group for Friday, so, fingers crossed, we can get this sleep test done and move forward.

And you may be right, maybe the delay will have me in a better state of mind come the day of surgery, who knows?

Hope everyone has a wonderful 4th of July.....whether you can eat food or not!!!:whoo:

Dr. Michaelson performed my surgery on July 5 and so far I have felt fantastic. I haven't needed the narcotic elixir - just some liquid Tylenol. I'm having a little pain in my shoulder and my "stab wounds" are tender but nothing like expected to feel. I even spent the day out and about with my hubby. I'm so impressed by all the staff at NWWLS. It was a great experience (other than general anesthesia - I hate coming out of that foggy sleep).

Does anyone know if there is an online forum/chat rooms for NWWLS patients? I've only seen references to the in-person meetings.

Shell Mar.....I'm planning on attending on Monday night! See you there.

Got some great news today, I went for my consult with the sleep study people and they had scheduled me for the sleep study on the 18th - - that was cutting it close to my scheduled surgery date of the 31st. But as luck would have it, there was a cancellation and I get to go in on Sunday! That was fast and unexpected. I'm excited knowing that my results will get to NWWLS in plenty of time before my surgery date!

And as I'm on the waiting list to be moved up the calendar, it could just happen sooner, who knows?

Thanks for letting post my good news somewhere!:clap2:

Cherrybomb - sure hope I have as good of an experience with Dr. Watkins! Congrats.

I see Dr. Michaelson on Thursday for my one week post-op follow up. I am really hoping he gives me the all clear to add some soft food to my diet. Mashed avocado or hummus sounds like heaven to me right now.

Cherrybomb,

Hate to be the downer, but I don't think he ever approves anyone early. I had some quiche the night before my 10 day follow up and he was aghast! Too much texture according to him, but I couldn't take it. At least I gave it 10 before I tried mushy things.

I found that adding some stove top stuffing to the Soups and then whipping it up was much more satisfying! I would recommend that you don't ruch the liquid stage, if anything, I was lax on the mushie end and eased in to foods a week early!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
